Thread: Bore guides

Any recommendations? Doing some reading and they seem to come very highly recommended. One website even went so far as to say you might as well just not bother cleaning without one, which seemed OTT but I'm new to this so hey what do I know!

Most are ill fitting and serve no purpose at all - some even make it harder to clean the rifle like the MTM(?) ones they're rubbish!

The best ones I've seen are made from Nylon or Teflon (or similar engineering plastic) machined to the right OD and with a very small ID just a fraction larger than the bore size.

Agree with KJ. I reckon for a normal cleaning regime they are not needed at all. Just a gimmick target shooters use to be gear freaks I reckon.

Rather than buying one, improvise by simply drilling out the primer pocket of a spent case, with a hole just big enough for cleaning rod brush to pass through. Easy !

I use the Sinclair ones with no complaints, very simple and robust.

+1 wouldn't clean without one now.

I have a 30 cal bore and 22cal cleaning rod so don't see the point. Have to be pretty ham fisted to get it to touch.

I use my .30cal to clean clean my 6.5. Never used copper solvent just hoppes #9 or some power lube from crc. Still shoots minute of deer. Never touched a bore guide in my life but if i had one I'd probably use it just because I had it

I have jags to suit the bore sizes i have. You soon know if you mix up the 303 one with the 308 one it don't go in.
