Yep under a hundy USD and they wave it goodbye as it flies to nz. I have one on its way as we speak in black pepper laminate, it will get 2 kg of lead glued into it for a project. :)
I've brought about 4 of them in. Customs opened each one and left a note saying the'd be opened. They left it at that and didn't interfere further.
Nice, wanting to get an uninletted one to go on my tikka, I'm left handed but shoot with a right hand action so can get a left hand/right bolt setup this way. Will just be a bit of a prick getting the recoil lug set up right etc
I'm a big fan of my Boyds stock on my remmy. Plus if I'm not wrong my Savage 17hmr came from the factory with a Boyds stock (if not it's a laminate stock that looks exactly like one they make). Plus for $160~ landed it's not gonna break the bank. None of mine took longer than 2 weeks to get here, most of them in around 10 days from memory.
The gun city guys like to charge $400 for them. Cheeky buggers.
I just ordered one for a .22 and needed to get a import permit sorted. Cheap tho.

Have emailed them to see if they can send me what I want, the longer term plan (will try this stock but may end up mounting to something lighter) is to try and get the Accuracy international bottom metal and magazine as well (although after looking now it seems they cant do the long action) The other part of the plan is to chop the forend shorter and keeping enough dpeth in it to mount a versapod from a spigot pinned into the front of the stock (the whole thing is just going to be an experiment), give me something to play with after work when the mrs is busy with assignments anyway
I thought so as well mate but I have just spent a few days getting it sorted with the arms officer and he reckons I need one.
Sorted now but be careful as the 2010 act states you need a permit to import any part of a firearm.

Oh bugger. I guess it's up to customs whether or not they're going to make you get one. As I said, customs opened the ones I brought in and didn't have any issues. That was last year from memory.
The arms officers I've called in the past to ask questions about importing stuff have always been pretty helpful. Hopefully getting a permit for it would be easy as.
It was easy but could have been costly if I didnt get one!

Had one delivered last week, it had also been opened as had nearly all the rest but there has never been a problem. I think I have 15 over the last 12 months. Anything over the $100 mark they won't send because of export permits which I believe have a minimum cost of $250usd. Expecting 2 more this week as they have just cleared customs, they also sell Bold Optima triggers which are also very good
I am no expert on these matters but have been told by 2 different cops that I required one.
Maybe they were being careful.
Fines are pretty big if they wanted to make an issue.

The act reads quite clearly, a number of people have been having issues posting scopes lately. Rather than go on opinions I'll flick an email to the arms officer to get their take on it, if its as easy as R93 suggests it was to get a permit then why wouldnt you?
no issues bringing them in at all.
who are you getting to inlet it horihunter?
Iv got a brno 600 i want to do this with
I would recommend getting a permit, after having some parts seized I clarified with customs and was quoted as R93 has posted section 16 Para 1 part b ((b)any parts of a firearm)
a permit does not cost anything and will save you any headache's along the way,(BTW if your AO claims you don't need one, get it in writing)
Cheers
DAF
As this is largely an experiment that I'm wanting to try a few different things on I'll be going it myself, I used to be a joiner and have access to most of what I would need but may end up making a couple of jigs to keep things square etc and make any future tasks easier.
Ive sent an email to the AO, will see what the response is. It would be good if there was an interpretation of firearms parts, would seem a bit over the top if you needed a permit for a bipod but can understand it for working parts of a firearm (ie anything that could add to the number or firearms in the country)
There is an interpretation of firearm in the act,
firearm—
(a) means anything from which any shot, bullet, missile, or other projectile can be discharged by force of explosive; and
(b) includes—
(i) anything that has been adapted so that it can be used to discharge a shot, bullet, missile, or other projectile by force of explosive; and
(ii) anything which is not for the time being capable of discharging any shot, bullet, missile, or other projectile but which, by its completion or the replacement of any component part or parts or the correction or repair of any defect or defects, would be a firearm within the meaning of paragraph (a) or subparagraph (i); and
(iii) anything (being a firearm within the meaning of paragraph (a) or subparagraph (i)) which is for the time being dismantled or partially dismantled; and
(iv) any specially dangerous airgun
From that a scope cant be adapted to launch a projectile, a stock can be adapted or when completed used to launch a projectile
Iv sent them an email, we will see where that goes $wise and hassle wise
Just got a reply from arms officer, if its an a-cat stock, no permit is required. I'll keep the email just in case customs think otherwise as they obviously have with some others. Now I just need the guys at Boyds to reply....the longer they take the more tempted I am by some of the Microfit options.....
Thanks for the info Lockee, I didnt word myself quite right, I was a bit tongue in cheek about the different interpretations we are dealing with. Some people have trouble posting a scope, some have no issues with a stock, others get pulled up on it.
Hori bloody hunter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im now on richards microfit spending damn money:omg:
To get a permit takes almost no time, ring in advance or email what you want the permit for so they can prepare in advance.
Turn up at the AO's counter at agreed time and fill out a simple form, the AO will then write the permit and give you the pink copy, which you will then need to send this original to customs when required.
I hope this helps
As Steve has said, just had a mauser 98 stock and trigger arrive for the .257 project no issues at all.
