actually I should be there when its fired as Im a trained RN, i could slap a needle full of painkiller in your arse -"will it hurt "say you -no i dont feel a thing"(me) and lets face it after firing a four bore your body aint gonna be in any fit state to feel anything!
People often used to say to me as went about preparing an intrmuscular jab (max 2'needle of 14-16 g which is like a hollow 3"nail though usually 22/23 g 1/12"needle suffices does it hurt -me very sootingly "tis a case of mind over matter me dont mind your butt dont matter .most burst out laughing then turn round and say "well get on with it" -its done!!

I remember reading years ago about either a 460wby or similar. It had snappy enough recoil to detach retinas after several shots

I read a bit about some guys who tested a 577 Tyrannosaur.
One of them stated it was the most unpleasant rifle he had ever come across.
I reckon @Marty Henry could handle it.

@7mmwsm if your referring to Friwis 500 Jeffery at the big bore shoot that was plenty thanks, but I think I handled it better than some who had a go.

That’s correct, the standard .460 Wby loads now are way tamer than the original load.

Modern nitro powder big bore’s recoil is a lot more violent (snappier) and more unpleasant than the older BP big bores.
That said, the sheer amount of recoil from something like a 2 or 4 bore is still monsterous.

There are quite a few Harpoon guns over here, all shapes and sizes. From ship mounted Whale cannons to hand held types that are built on Jarman/Mauser/Mannlicher actions with a much heavier barrel.

The cartridges for the hand held guns have a colour coded wad that denotes the charge weight, they havn't made the cartridges in years and a box of them is worth more than the gun itself. The carts come in a zinc box that is soldered shut to protect it.If you hold the gun wrong with the heaviest charge it might put your teeth through the side of your cheek, this happens by shooting at too steep of an angle like beside the boat shooting Tuna.

The guns didnt need a licence up untill june last year as they were classed at fishing gear.

Here are some to look at.

Impressive, I could almost smell the fish oil, I've handled a greener line thrower and a net gun from the deer recovery days. I'm now wondering if one could be modified for white baiting

yes the old net guns to be approached with caution damn nasty some of them especially when the loads had been warmed up to get more range

On an African hunting forumthat I am a member of, the 460 comes up frequently even now as one of the more unpleasant modern DG rifle/calibres.
A lot of them get shot a few time and then get passed on. Then muzzle break use gets brought up and that's another animal.
But yes, you could get some good deals on 460s with very little use
