Thread: Bringing parts over from OZ

From experience :

1. General items are not an issue so long as the item is not listed as being 'restricted'. This applies for export as well as import.
2. If you're bringing back any kind of firearm you will likely need to provide the retailer with a NZ Import License. Certainly the case for NSW.
3. For NSW you will need the retailer to apply for an Export Licence - cost: AUD$25. They will need the NZ Import Licence for this. I assume other states have similar policies.
4. Be prepared for an extended check-in process. Add a minimum of an hour before your normal 2 hour check-in time slot.
5. If you are bringing back optics, be aware that many "tactical" scopes are considered to be restricted. This will very likely apply to optics that YOU don't consider to be tactical.
6. Remember it's their rules, not yours.
7. Have a back-up plan in case you get knocked back. I've heard of unhappy people having to go back through Security and Immigration and having to post optics back to retailers for credit because they were not permitted for export. That's going to make your day, so avoid it at the front end.
8. If you do anything dumb, it will go on your Immigration Dept record and you will be forever hassled when travelling in future.
