    Bringing in scope from oz

Anyone have experience bringing scopes in luggage from Australia. Have family coming over and considering getting them to bring a nightforce over. Do I have to pay tax, should i ditch the packaging and recipt ?
    Cheers

I've bought a few back I didn't declare them. I have never even been asked to open my bag, they generally have people on radar and don't bother with 'normal family' people.

Do a bit of a search of this forum and you'll find lots of good answers to this question, including some advice. There are pros and cons... just be aware of both.

Have had a search it seems that if you bring in your luggage most of the time you are fine and dont pay any additional charges that you get from posting. Have talked to magnum sports and they say that it isnt a firearm part so shouldn't need a permit. I figure they should know since they send here often.
Are there any cheaper options than magnum sports for nightforce?

Well it’s over the customs value limit so you “should” declare it and pay GST on it but sometimes they will just wave you through.....I’ve found if you declare some food, say nuts, cheese, etc they focus on that and forget about the other stuff

You are supposed to have a permit for bringing scopes back from Aussie, the permit is free also. I would say that it could depend on the day to wether or not you get pulled up for not having a permit.

If it all goes wrong ask them to check your prostate when they do the cavity search, the saving on doctors fees will cover some of the fine from customs!

I think if the value is $400 or over you are supposed to pay GST, so if the scope is still cheaper including the extra 15% you can't really lose.
