Thread: Brno fox

Hi gang,

I have this thing about the 222 rem particular after reading a lot about your pro deer hunters. Also have a thing about having something a little different and old school.

Hence a Brno fox in 222 with a fixed 6 power scope caught my eye in my local. No idea what sort of condition it's in at this stage.

Are these general considered a collectors item?

I have a 223 in tikka so don't really need the calibre although I've always considered it perfect for my hunting - rabbits and foxes with the off roo and goat.

Any info on the Brno fox would be great. And pictures of re-furnished ones!!!

Ahhhhhh... my favourite rifle.

Yep... the ol' BRNO Fox mod II. That's a keeper for sure.

A mate of mine has hunted with his Fox since he was a teenager.

That was more than 3 decades ago too.

He's never had another centre fire rifle in all that time either and yet still takes his fair share of animals from rabbits to deer.

I've also noticed that you'll pay a pretty penny for a good one now days too.

Last one I looked at went for over $1500 on trade me.

I'd say they are considered a collectors item in NZ. They are an iconic rifle, and they are beautiful, well balanced and generally just a bloody good gun. Don't worry about whether you need it, just buy it.

Went and checked out the rifle today. Nice clean bolt face, timbers in pretty good nick considering. Certainly hasn't been miss treated. Only thing is the scope on it is mounted really high, would like to be able to mount nice and low for a good cheek weld.


So tempting!!

What's he want for it? If it's under $1800 id just grab it they're bloody neat rifles

They have a very high bolt lift.new scopes have large eyepiece.

stop pissing about Floody, they don't make them any more and you will never regret getting it.......however if you let it pass you will probably always wish you had grabbed it.

Yeah absolutely grab it for that. And as above the scope will be mounted high to clear the high bolt lift. Dad found a guy with two of them a few months ago him and his mate bought both of them. Our scope just clears. Mate ended up grinding a bit off the bolt handle to clear. Sweet shooters the pair of them.

A good Vixen is at least double the price of a Brno and probably more accurate you get what you pay for, I have a Brno ZKW 465 fitted with a Weaver K4 on Hillver rings the bolt clears the scope well
At times it's had a Pecar 6X and an old Bushnell 6X fitted all cleared the bolt when funds allow I will fit a Leupold 2-7 x 33 that should clear the bolt as well and would be a good scope for the Fox.

I'd grab it before the owner comes to his senses.

Last one I looked at was $1500nzd without a scope and mounts, I hesitated and missed out.
