BRNO ZG47
Well I actually got this out to photograph and sell but after fondling it again and working the bolt I changed my mind ..... thought I would post a few pics seen as I took them anyway and they are not commonly seen.
They only made 20,000 of these in from 56 to 57 , and they have a very unique safety lever , the metalwork on these early Brno’s is outstanding and they shoot extremely well , the wood on the stocks however are normally quite ordinary ,but I still like them .
Does anyone else have or shoot one ?Attachment 114070

I bought one with a well used barrel so rebarrelled with Douglas barrel .25/06, conetrol mounts. Mine has a cheekpiece, have a spare stock if anyone looking for one in very good condition.

I have the identical rifle in 3006, although the original owner long before my time loved varnish... and ruined what could have been a decent swamp mahogany stock. Comes with a period correct scope as well
-
@Lucky what caliber is this lovely piece?
-
"Jon Speed – the Mauser historian – in his seminal book on Mauser sporting rifles & derivatives – wrote that the of all the non-Mauser produced actions, the BRNO ZG-47 was probably the finest (regular production) commercial 98 action yet made."
Love it, lovely rifle

@Mathias , 3006 made in 1957 , actions close tight like a bank vault door , this one luckily has a mint barrel and shoots under moa and that’s with a barrel that is fixed to the forend and fully bedded into stock , no floating barrels on these suckers .

You are indeed "lucky" to have a piece like this.

Haha good to see a healthy interest in old rifles with wood stocks and blued steel is still alive and kicking .

so thats the great granddaddy of my zastava.....I can see the family resemblance...including the round birthmark with cz inside it.

Yes had one in 7x57 it was ok but I sold it to buy a BSA Viscount the BSA was actually a nicer hunting rifle. To be honest an Oberndorf or mod 21 or vz33 would be my choice I thought the zg 47 was a bit ' clunky ' and I didn't like the reverse safety. Still better than any modern junk.
-
Yep they are big rifles, I have owned /hunted with a 7 x 57 viscount as well and they are also lovely rifles ,pre war oberndorfs are top of the heap but good examples are a rare thing especially with factory mounted scopes and a decent bore , Model A oberndorf is my dream rifle , I have a mod 21 in 7 x 57 which is the next best thing to a Oberndorf me thinks .

Awesome ZG!
Could you please post some pics of your model 21?
There was a decent (but stock was a bit dinged up) Oberndorf Type B in 7x57 which sold on Trademe a few days ago...for a whopping $880.00. Bargain. Excellent bore - supposedly; everything matching apart from the bolt, which was a direct replacement from Mauser.
Still - a Type A is even nicer. I'd rather have an older Mauser (in great condition) than a made-in-2019 production '98. The new ones lack the old-school charm and all the history that goes with it. :)

$880 bloody hell my normally reliable trademe agent @Tentman must have missed this.

I have 3006 1956 I think. Interesting to compare alongside 1955 Win Mod 70 3006, same era era different sides of iron curtain..
