Brownells own brand 5 round mags awful?

Is it just me or have others found they dont work? All 4 wouldnt feed in my AR, either couldnt feed the first or certianly never got past no2. The spring seems way to strong in them jamming them so hard against the lips the bullet wont feed out. The stag's 5rnd mag fed 200 rounds of different makes almost flawlessly (except for the first round on the barnual's each time).

    So I send them back?

Good idea, seems the spring is really strong on them. Dremel will get a work out I guess.

I have a few, they're pretty hard to marry with the rifle when the BCG is forward. Other than that I don't think I ever had a malfunction with them. BTW, you can grind down the follower spring tail and fit 6-7 rounds in them.

One of my Stoner mags has popped a few welds already, can't see why they are so highly rated.

Spear mags are way expensive, in fact all mags here are.

None of the black Spear mags will drop from any of the brands of receivers I have.
Mate sent a bunch back for that reason.

I got 3 of the desert tan Spear mags and they work fine on my Stag Arms.

So maybe I'll order some more stag mags, at least that works flawlessly in 200 odd rounds.

Maybe try changing the followers to anti tilt (Magpul).

The followers on the John Marsen ones are crap, I swapped them to Magpul anti tilt and have zero issues.

The Magpul 7/10 magazines are great, same price as the Spear when I've seen them

In regards to seating a magazine with the bolt forward. As most of the diminished capacity magazines ensure that no more rounds can be inserted than the stated 5 or 7 for legal reasons, there is no extra compression available to lock the magazine in place. With standard capacity magazines, you can usually insert 1-2 rounds more, this extra compression allows the magazine to lock in place. One of the reasons that GI mags are often recommended to only be loaded to 28rds is that they lack that extra compression.
