Does anyone have one of these? Been thinking about one for awhile as I miss being able to takedown my Bergara but not missing its weight considering its a single shot. Thinking the BLR could make a nice replacement. Id also love to see close up of the barrel and bolt mechanism as barreling one to suit a fast twist 308 would be my ideal situation.
So any opinions on them? or anyone wanting to sell one?
There's a second hand one in 308 for sale at H&F Dunedin, don't remember the price. Was chatting to a gunsmith this week and he mentioned he was working on a BLR recently but the barrel was pressed in. Not sure if that is the case for all of them? The one at H&F is a new looking stainless one from memory.
They are pretty slick, and more like a straight pull bolt action that is operated by a lever, than a tradition lever action. Rotating bolt head, front locking lugs, etc, better for inherent accuracy compared to the usual rear locking, tilting bolt style in most lever actions. Getting the teeth on the rack and pinion aligned again properly if you ever have to disassemble and reassemble one can be tricky,(and that's if your competent, a clumsy bastard like me may struggle for hours) but hopefully that won't be required often. There aren't many lever action options in 308 in modern production, I can only think of the BLR and Henry Long Ranger off the top of my head and the BLR beats the pants off the Henry in every way except maybe price, and they don't offer a takedown one afaik.

Really? Where the hell did the pressed fit idea come from then.
Out of interest do you work for yourself or which Smith are you? If you do Smith for others I'd love to drop the blr if I can get one off to you if you have played with them before as experience in a unique actions pretty important.
Still interested to know about the smiting of these.
A bit of a shame but sounds like someone wanted one too and brought it yesterday afterwork which is odd as they sent me pictures at closing. Back to the search.

Shipment of BLR takedowns arrive on the 21st got my name on one 308 ,should get it in the new year .Bucket list idea never shot a deer with open sights so will run QR rings on it

Must not of read much of the thread then. It's mentioned in the first response regarding Tommy talking to a gunsmith as well as numerous American forums saying can rebarrel pre81s but not any of the alloy receiver models. ALthough they seem to think they are unable to be rebarrelled 90% of the time although there is the odd person vaguely saying it can be done then not commenting again. I was also told by 2 smiths they are press fit and one the actual barrel Is machined to take the bolt lugs when I called and asked. Evidently the press fit barrel extension is confused for a press fit barrel. Have you ever rebarrelled takedown model by removing the barrel from extension?Quote:

Don't think there was any argument anymore about whether they are threaded. As it seems they are threaded to a barrel extension which which is press fit to a aluminium receiver. Again it's kind of an off topic as the thread was supposed to be about the takedowns. Good point about the cold is it the trigger hand or rifle hand that gets cold?Quote:

Yeah groups well enough for a hunting rifle ,three shot groups at hundred inch to inch and half with handloads nice rifles

Just purchased one of these, the BLR Lightweight Stainless Takedown in 7mm-08 that I'm hoping to bring with me from the US when I move over in August - NZ police approved by 30-06 bolt action, let's see what they say about another request. Taken it to the range twice, still only with iron sights but plinking soda cans at 100yds with consistency...that's about as much as I can say for the accuracy without putting a scope on there. TBH it's fun as hell shooting the open sights, I might leave it that way for a while as an encouragement to make me get close to animals before shots. The takedown mechanism is super easy and feels very stable, doesn't seem to budge the point of aim but again I am only iron sighting at this stage. The laminated wood is nice looking and feels sturdy to hand, overall a very fun and comfortable rifle. I have only ever shot 308 and 30-06 before this and the 7-08 feels super nice and easy to shoot.

Get the trigger work done by a gunsmith there before bringing it back,in the process of getting mine down now will cost me $120 in couriers a lone because of the fucking knee jerk reaction Christchurch caused ,yet know one is accountable except my fucking wallet,,,[emoji107]

Definitely, thanks for the heads up. It’s weird how hotly/creaky the trigger is, but I’ve read they’re all like that. What are you having yours adjusted to, and how complicated did they say it would be?
I had mine adjusted by gunsmith Zac Earl out fChristchurch.Top bloke, great work. Got it down to about 2.5lb good clean break for a lever. Worth going the extra effort. I'd buy another BLR knowing how good it came out.

Mines just been done. Its kind of like a 2 stage trigger which I didn't expect but once the initial take-up (very light and smooth) is gone its crisp as can be and much lighter. Completely changed the rifle for the better.
how bout recommendations for good bases/rings or rail/rings for scope for these? anyone use QD rings to give option to still use the open sights?
