    Browning X-Bolt 270 vs Browning X-Bolt 7mm-08

My partner is wondering which gun would be better for general deer hunting (Central North Island native/forestry blocks), a Browning X-Bolt 270 or 7mm-08?

Both would do the job, 7mm-08 Has a little bit less recoil. Really it’s more personal preference you can’t go wrong with either. Or you could always get a WSM and be the coolest person on your street

Pretty much the same at the deer end, slightly less recoil at your end from 7mm08

I would think both are pretty good and have similar performance but I think the edge would be with the 270. Have had and used this caliber for 45 years on and off and it works well.
A little more recoil but still not excessive, the 7mm08 probably has a better bullet selection but there are plenty of fine bullets for the 270 too.
Ones a long action the other a shorter action but in reality not that bigger difference.
The 270 has been around for a long time, a lot longer than the 708 and it hasn't been up there in the top rifle sales for no reason. We sure a spoiled for choice these days.

sapphire I'd say either calibre would be a good choice in a Browning XBolt. The 7/08 rifle with it's short action may be a couple ounces lighter.

sorry that doesn't narrow it down much!

I was going to say - 1 is long action and other short
There lies are settling argument in my book
I personaly I find a big + goes to the short over long and Cal - well either will do same job if bullet placement correct
    So 7m08 it is !!!

708 takes better to shortening and suppressing if that's of interest

My vote is for the 7mm08 and run either the Nosler 140 or 120 B -Tips

Ive had both calibers and enjoy 7mm08 better.

270 kicks a little more especially in a light rifle.

If you are reloading 7mm has a better range of projectiles & uses less powder.

As far as killing goes pretty similar in my experience.

I didnt reload for my 270 but given the larger case capacity you could likely push a bit more velocity but dont quote me.

7mm08 will probably be easier to on sell.

Short action is better in a bush rifle, cut it to 20 inches put a suppressor on it only rifle you will ever need.

+1 on the 120bts good little killers

suppressing it????go .270 all day long
unsuppressed and if they like drinking soy lattes go 7mm/08

Im biased, have used mighty poohseventy for over 30 years and shot just about every legal animal in KIWILAND with it...feed it good loads and you wont look back, load it down in projectile weight not velocity IF recoil sensitive...I used to flinch, didnt shoot paper and hated sighting in,once rifle was suppressed the loads got hotter and heavier again.the poohseventy just works for me...that said my nephew was 11 shots for 11 deer with his 7mm/08 till he cocked one up and needed 4 more to finish it.
    either will work
    so will .308 or 30/06
    always said if I didnt own a .270 I would own a .308...now own both,if I ever wear out 270 barrel it will probably become a .30/06.

Depends. If you reload, you can get similar results. If you buy factory rounds, 270 might have a bit more kinetic energy at the business end. I would also consider 7mmRM with different loads if you are reloading. You can tailor it to virtually any preference.

They are the same except you need to be 100 metres closer with the 7mm08
