I see Browning do the 22 250 in a 1/9 twist
Anyone have much experience with the x bolt in any caliber, either wood or stainless, there must be a few about .
Obviously the immediate comparison especially in the stainless would be with the Tikka, especially now with the T3X.
However general opinions and or experience would be good
There has been a 7mm mag in the local for yonks and the barrel seems quite thin
I have loaded for a .270 and it shot pretty well. Generally around an inch at 100 yards with three shots, some groups went well under but that happens from time to time. It does only have a 3-9x40 on it etc.. Definitely shoots consistently better than my tikka with a wider range of projectiles.
The trigger is quite heavy though but I haven't done any research to see if it's adjustable.

Yip I've had X Bolt and A bolt in .223 and 7mm08 both were good shooters gave the 708 to my son which he still has, as I was more used to the side safety than a shot gun type with my big hands.Quote:

Trigger is adjustable but best to polish sear and/or fit a lighter spring to get weight of pull down, might take you or your gunsmith an hour. Both guns I have experience with shoot well with handloads, between 1/2 and 1 MOA, both are WSM's. 7mm WSM shoots the same out to 400 yds, haven't tried the 300 that far out yet. Talley rings are good value and do the job well.
Apparently the bolt is prone to etching.........

One of My Sako's has etching on the bolt face, not particularly concerned.
Hi @jakewire. I have an x-bolt in .270wsm and love it. It shoots well (consistent sub-half moa) It shoots better than me. There's a dark ring around the firing pin hole in the bolt face but no pitting or etching as such. Nice to the shoulder and well-balanced and nice to have something that isn't a Tikka and still shoots well. What you buy is always a matter of personal choice, but I really like mine.

I"m thinking of one in 22 250 as am looking for a lighter rifle than the usual 8-10lb varminters but still able to shoot a bigger bullet than the 55gr or maybe short base 60gr.
According to Browning's Webb site the new X Bolt Stainless and Hunter models come with a 1-9 twist which would suit me.
Lightish, accuracy comments as above, it looks better and better.
Tikka T3x 1-14 unforunately or it would a very close call
Savage make one in 1-9 as well.

If you want to save a few dollars there is nothing wrong with the Hunter wood blue model. I have a "micro x bolt" in 243 which is wood blue. It was one of the first x bolts in the country (you might remember a chap who direct imported - I got it through him). Its been an amazing rifle and has never rusted and has been easy to look after. The stock is battered now but that's all part of the rifle's right of passage.
They have a great safety system and mine has a nice half cock. Mine was damned accurate out of the box and has remained so without touching it. The trigger is adjusted as light as I can get it and while its a bit heavy there isn't any creep. The extraction system is really powerful and throws the empties well clear (which is a fault of a lot of rifles that just let the empty flop onto the next live round in the mag if you don't use a really positive force - Sakos included)
I would have another x bolt in a flash.
I've no objection to a blued walnut model, In fact I'd probably prefer it.
It will be interesting to see the price difference between the stainless stalker and the hunter Tahr, manufacturers difference is 300USD, wonder if I'll get that sort of saving off the 1599NZD price the Stainless is going for here do you think?

I have a 30-06 Spr. Stainless synthetic. It prefers 165 gr. to 180 gr. projectiles. Accuracy is very acceptable....usually 1 moa and often 3/4".
I had a well qualified gunsmith adjust my trigger.......a standard out of the box Tikka trigger is superior IMHO.
