Another one for the Toz vote. My Toz 78 is more accurate than I can hold it and being Russian of course you can hammer a nail in with the front sight. Bought it second hand 20 years ago never let me down.

You're not wrong. The one I had, came without a mag, so I figured there was no real reason to keep it as any sort of classic, so I cut the barrel back inch by inch and filled the mag aperture with a piece of wood. Measured velocity and at 16" she was bloody spot on. Crowned the muzzle with a hand drill and it hit most things I aimed at. I fed it on a diet of $4 a box Ozzy stuff. Amazing rifles.
Krico and Voere nice little 22s and usually accurate. The risk now is parts - springs, pins, magazines etc can be very very hard to source.
Do you have the 78 or the 17? I finally found someone who has after market mags for the 17 and I have mags for the 78. The 78 is still available new and is also sold as the Winchester wildcat 22. In fact Winchester did not even bother taking the Toz branding off, they simply added theirs to the other side. though the branding with the winchester name means they no longer fit the budget "plain jane " description. Still very good rifles.
What price are the 78s these days Tim - good little hunters esp with the set of 4 mags they had in past. The Toz I'd like to get my hands on is the 78-06? - the heavy barrel variant. Very sharp little shooter.
Thanks for the info, but I gave the TOZ away 15 years ago to a cockie for dispatching sick stock. It went with the advice that it shot faster than any other 22 rifle. I can't find the exact figures anymore, but it was around 150fps quicker than the '06 Winchester.
$500 with the 4 mags but I am out at the moment. The 06 was a little dearer and he only got 6. I think he wants to bring more in but has not yet. They pop up on trade me from time to time. There was one recently for around $350-$400....but it was a semi auto. Still a dam good price though. New they are $599 for the semis and we do have a few of those left.
Are the semi auto similarly accurate or a bit less?

Interesting info on the TOZ 78. Could you keep us informed when the 78-06 become available, thanks.
@kristopher It unfortunately wont be for quite a while. Also while the 06 is marketed as a heavy barrel varmint version, there were a few differences.
The barrel is a little thicker than the standard rifle but not substantially like we would normally refer to a "heavy" barrel. It is after all a 22 so heat distortion is not a massive issue....
While the standard (04 and 01 ) models came with open sights, the 06 doesn't as it is presumed that you will want a scope so these open sights are left off at the factory.
It has an adjustable trigger (same as the 01 model that we had which was unthreaded)
It had a factory thread for a suppressor (Same as the 04 version with the standard non adjustable trigger)
At the end of the day it was simply a different variation. If you are inclined to get a Toz 78, keep and eye out on trade me as they do occasionally pop up. I still carry spare mags for the 78 and the 99 (semi auto). There was one at Vortex Marine / The Gunshack in Blenheim a year or so back. I figure they will have sold it by now but it was the last one i knew of so could be worth a try. Of all the Toz 78s I have sold over the years, only a very few have been resold via trade me so I can only presume they are being held onto by the original buyers,
Thanks for.
Hi Tim I bought two of the Toz ten round mags from your old shop pre quake and one doesn't feed the first five rounds, are you up and running again or have a "shop"? thanks Nick
I heard the JW 15 10 shot mag is a bit of a dog...does anybody have one ?
Scored a mint BSA Supersport Five for $275, needs a good clean but is "all there". I can see why they are "rated", nice hand-filing stock, adjustable trigger (a pretty good one on first impression) and smooth action. Will post photos soon and report on performance in due course.
Plenty of the 5-shot mags won't feed well without modification either, just a lack of quality control in the factories I expect.
@GravelBen My 5 shot mags occasionally won't feed the last round any idea what modification will fix this ? It's not all the time just occasionally.
May be to do with how fast the bolt is cycled.
Never been enough of an issue to stress about but if there's an easy fix I'm all ears.
Sorry for the thread hi jack
A guy I know who was a pest controller used them, he said the bottom plate of the mag tends to fall off. He has his secured at the front with the worlds smallest weld. Mine has stayed put thus far.
@dannyb
My mates JW15 had annoying feeding issues from new, I ended up changing the angle of the mag lips by bending them with pliers, and filed the edges a bit to get the rounds feeding right. It just took some looking closely to figure out what was happening first, and then a bit of trial and error to get it right.
From memory the problem with that one was the lips holding the back of the round too low and letting the front pop up too high, so it would often stovepipe or hit above the chamber instead of going in. If the problems are caused by lack of quality control then yours might be doing something different, but watching how the rounds pop out of the mag while the bolt is being cycled is a good place to start.
This is exactly what mine does, I'll have a look next time I'm feeling motivated.
Thanks @GravelBen
@short swede , we dont have a shop yet, but I do have someone who could look at them for you. Might take a while so if you are in a hurry... I do have a few spare 5 and ten shot mags for sale and I know where they are and at $45 each, I could sell you a spare to keep you going while the gunsmith looks at it. PM me with your email or ph and I can touch base with you.
A guy I met was target-shooting with jw15's, he advised to check the hole was center at the muzzle-end, before purchasing. Mine is very accurate with cci ammo. The 5shot mag feeds well, but my first one didnt, and I use a 10-shot steel brno mag with no issues. My BSA sportsman 15, is a laser and extremely long-range.My Son has a toz 17, and a voere--both really accurate. I have only owned one inaccurate .22, and that was an overpriced cz, but everyone else seems to have a good one. I cant speak for modern stuff, but I've never really seen an older .22, that wasnt a shooter, and my BSA trigger is the best of any I've used or owned, including anchutz. There are dozens of good quality, older .22's out there, at reasonable prices...especially in the smaller sports-shops
A bit of online research reveals that "supposedly" Remington 511/513/521 mags will work/can be adapted. I intend to test this out for myself as it would be nice to have a spare.
@john m I just bought a CBC a week back for 350. When did you buy yours and how much? Mine likes CCI minimags and CCI subs both groups 1 inch at 50 meters. Mine doesn't like Winchester ammo much around 2 inches at 50. What ammo does yours like?Found out that extra mags are the same as the ones for other Remington .22 rifles (ie. 511, 513, & the Nylon 11) according to this https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forum...?t=80859&=1

Had a Miroku .22lr Lever action 15 shot.
Was awesome and have always regretted selling it
Ive got a brno model 2 I got off here about a year ago
Has a small bulge in the tube which is why it was cheap
($275 with 10 shot mag from memory ) shoots like a demon
That’s probably the best 22 on a bugget off 300 probably will never sell
it id say it’s almost as accurate as a few ive had in the $1500-2k range over the years
As far as a new rifle on a bugget goes I reckon you can’t go past a jw15 well ok maybe an em332 but you can’t exactly call them bugget these days for 249 combo with a scope they shoot very well from the box
Downside is the action etc is quite rough the action can be improved alot for free just by polishing parts with 1000g wet and dry etc
My Neighbour has one that he had a gunsmith tidy up and do a trigger job on
That thing is as accurate as most 22 hunting rifles one ragged hole at 50m
Even if you just buy one and go shoot it with no work done you’ll still easily hold under inch groups at 50
Fat Labrador the one my daughter has was left behind when some poachers were chased off the farm.It shoots 40gr Winchester subs just fine.
