now way back when and i dont know if it is still done or has been phased out.
burris duplex reticles were hammered flat rather than the wire being stretched. (ok not a great description)
so in order to keep the reticle as strong as possible the reticle has the same amount of "wire" in the thinner part of the reticle as the outer wire its just flatted out and stretched further towards the lenses. i have seen them get damp and they get "hairy looking"
its because the edges of the reticle are oxidising
Hairy is a good description, that would match up with what this reticle looks like..
