Go to your local Gun Shops and have a look at the secondhand stock. I know in Invercargill there would probably be 50+ suitable rifles. Benefit of this is that you get to shoulder the rifle, you may find what you want already done, gunsmith may offer to shorten to shift the stock and you never know what may take your fancy.

I really like this idea. A second hand should be 2/3 the price of new so you step up a level in quality.
Seeing as its your rainy day short range backup rifle its not so critical if there was a minor fault like a hidden ring bulge or burred screw slot.
What you see is what you get will be fine and you get to feel them all.
