About LinkBacks6:1 half dozen the other mate. I like the 284 as it punches 7mm slugs and it's different from my favourite the 308. 308 or 284 at 17" is a neat rig and will do everything you need it to.
Just google and read mate, I've had 308, 284, 280ai and 7RM among others smaller and I'd say apart from a Saum the 284 and 308 are just best for intended purpose.
As for the S&B mate, na I'd keep her as you know what you've got, Z3 are light but hey your rifle should be light anyways.
