    Call me dumb....

Call me dumb, but what is it that makes a firearm "tactical"?

Usually black, too much scope, large ammo capacity and it has to be "scary" to the regular uninformed public.

Hi, as far as i believe its a advertising gimick to make money. Its used to market certain firearms to silly punters lol. It can also be refered to a rifle that is used in law enforcement and military purposes. A tactical rifle could be one that is vesatile to be used in different situations but as far as hunting goes as more a marketing gimick to sell more. (esp black ones) No questions dumb, just dumb answers but this answer isnt a dumb one haha cheers

    Well

Most importantly it has to be matt black - that is non-negotiable.
If it has a pistol grip, your "tactical" score goes up.
If it has at least 2 torches, you get 5 extra points.
Each accessory rail scores 1 extra point.
The ability of the owner to shoot has no bearing on the "tactical" score.

I think those are the basics

I'd say originally it was used to describe firearm variants derived from or marketed towards law enforcement/military, but now it also includes guns with too many rails, and guns with enough shit on them to comfortably sail past the point of practicality.

Tactical means it never gets on my shopping list.

gonna annoy a lot of people here but to me anyone that hunts with a unnecessarily kitted out tactical riffle is a try hard. a bit like a townie driving around in a lifted hilux with 72" mags thats never been parked on the lawn let alone touch decent mud. call me odd but to me nothing beats a blued barrel and a nicely polished walnut stock.
