Looking more and more like im no longer able to shoot a normal rifle with any degree of comfort so as much as I hate the look of them im going to try a chassis rifle. Whats out there on the market that still allows for a nice carry weight, is ok to shoot off hand, and isnt made of plastic?
The elude chassis appear to be quite popular but limited to calibers that will fit in howa mini action

The DPT Hunter chassis might be worth looking into. Price seems very reasonable. Off the shelf rifles like the SigCross still seem quite heavy.

Another thought, if you have a shoulder injury that is causing you issues? Kiwi-hunter on here is a professional night shooter with shoulder issues and uses a set of sticks. Hares/possums/rabbits to 200M are gone burgers.
Plastic isn’t all bad, low maintenance and isnt susceptible to climatics. As long as it has a good bedding block for the action you can do a lot worse. The KRG range isnt bad, I have one of my rifles in one of their bravo stocks. Thing drives tacks, it’s absolutely silly and has me and anyone else shooting it giggling like a school girl. Rifle dependant could be shot off hand I guess.

Shoulder is all good I just have very little feeling remaining from about half way down my arm, most of my hand has no feeling at all, movement is mostly fine so learning to live with itQuote:

Looks can be very deceiving. Put m-lok covers on mine and with shorter barrel and suppressor the balance and grip is perfect. Made for offhand shooting. PM me if you ever want to trial it. In your situation, you may want to try a few different options.Quote:

The are a touch heavy, but not too bad.
Another thought is to "change hands", I know of several shooters with eye injuries who have done this (including at least one notable contributor to the forum) and I've struck two other range users who have regained their shooting confidence and competence.
I found them realy good when I had to switch to lefthanded.
Grs stocks might fit your needs but not sure how lite they are. Do you have a rifle/calibre in mind you want to fit the stock or chassis to

How are you getting on with trigger pull etc? Single stage or 2 Stage options?
Hi Ryan, I couldn't see a way to message you so ill just post here. Id like to send you a stock to trial if it would help, the grip is more vertical but more importantly the cross section and proximity to the trigger may be ideal given the loss of feeling in your hand. A few other ideas I have is that heavy stippling increases stability overall, and you could link in to the sling stud at the rear or flush cup with a short sling to aid. Two chassis in NZ come to mind is one from Robert HG and what's on offer by DPT.

I followed the thread on Rokslide and listened to the podcast about the design of it. Vertical grip, short reach to trigger, designed for less felt recoil all sound very cool. Dog ugly design but by all accounts so far they really work as intended. A bloke built his own out of maple which actually looks really nice I think.

chassis tend not to be light, my dpt lightweight hunter is still quite heavy on a t3 lite and is not great for off hand shooting
what about a more vertical gripped carbon stock, basically the same ergo as a chassis without the weight
I found the MDT LSS chassis quite nice. As mentioned most chassis tend to be heavier than standard sporter stocks. I found the balance and extra weight of the LSS quite ideal for offhand shooting. Nice and steady not floating around like a lot of featherweights do when your puffed. Was great in the tussock country down south, though I didn't like it as much in the scrub up north with the projecting handle, mag, stock etc. They are not as comfortable to carry in the hand bush stalking as sporter. If usually hunt more open country, carry your rifle with a sling the majority of the time and you can get over the look of them chassis offer a wonderful shooting experience. I would get another....
