    Choose me a coyote rifle

Ok this is a little different...

Going to head back to the states and on the lookout online over there for a coyote gun. I case something comes up at a good price before I get back I will buy it and get it sent to a friend.

    The criteria:

Shots from 10-300m. It's gun will live in the truck with many shots taken from the bonnet or out the window.
Calibre... Not worried but the range, game size and availability probably dictate 243/22-250/308/25-06 or should I think 223?

Stock... Not sure? Won't be alpine so maybe wooden or laminate is best
    Metal... Stainless is not essential
Optics... I'm thinking a fixed 6 power but will probably go for a 3-9. Boring I know.

So build me your ultimate coyote rifle? Even if you've never hunted them... Note, they never stand still so unlikely to dial.. Just point and shoot.

Will buy it second hand, could always put a boyds stock on it for next to nothing..

AR15. But it doesn't fit your criteria at all

    perm? or just a visit?

Guns are way cheaper over there as Im sure you know....

Ive seen ppl hunt coyotes on youtube, not my scene, but Id wonder on a good quality semi-auto for a follow through given your range isnt far. Do coyotes hunt alone? my impression was 2 or 3 or 4 together, so a semi might allow a finish off or 2 take downs quickly....in which case Id consider an AR15, of course they are expensive these days in the US.

after 40 odd years battling rust/corrosion my personal preference is always stainless...but a chromed barrel would be fine...

Hmmm yeah a fast twist 243... I like that idea, I think the sako might be out of reach in terms of $$. If it was American made I would be in for something cheaper. What are the ruger hawk eyes like?

It will be a log term stay... Yeah a semi would be ok but I'm not keen to leave an AR15 in the truck all the time. I know that is completely unreasonable but that is just me. I won't be actively hunting them but just shooting them on the farm, they are everywhere. Mostly they are alone but sometimes in a small pack

I love watching the coyote hunting on YouTube and such and most seem to be with either 223 204 or 243 I like the 6mm cal so a cheep rem 700 with decent bases rings and good glass would be the sensible choice, and the road well travelled. Beyond that I'd stay simple stainless synthetic and practice your calls

I'm going to be hooking up with Colorado and Pawnee Josh in about 2 days time. They've shot loads of dogs and I think with a .243 but I hope to know for sure before the end of next week!

Couple of great guys methinks, they're picking me up in Denver.
