    Choosing Your First AR15

I have decided to purchase my first AR15.

    I have a budget of around $3k.

For this I would like to get the best rifle possible with good enough glass to shoot accurately out to 300m or more if possible.

I know SFA about any of the AR15's currently available here in NZ.

A cat or E cat makes no difference to me.

I will use it mainly for busting Goats, Paper targets and Steel gongs.

    Open to any suggestions.

    Cheers
    Pete

My suggestion would be to go buy an 18" NEA ($1999) or similar, spend $300 - $400 on a good match trigger, and put the rest into mounts ($200 or so) and glass (leaving you around $500 for glass).

The NEA barrels are great, they are free floated, and the main drawback really is the single stage mil trigger. Putting a good trigger into an AR makes for a whole different rifle. Standard triggers are ok, good triggers make it very hard to miss.

If you went this way, it should get you in under your $3k budget, depending on how spendy you want to get on the glass.

This is a good course of action.

Me personally, if I was starting out from scratch, it would be and E cat DD carbine, 4x32 ACOG TA01, ODL can, Geiselle trigger. Lookin at $5k+ though

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Note the black spat lower left, one 45/70 pure lead 500 grain projectile, with light load of smokeless. Popped a leg off its hinge, at 50 metres, rest are at 100 metres
