    Same. Also forgot that firearms are not just meant for killing.
    I know a lot of target shooters that have never hunted.

    To be honest, guns are hateful things, weapons, are they not???

    It is a terrifying thought ever to shoot another human being, and best to dwell on that thought, as if you ever do it you'll probably not want to go shooting ever again.

    That's why we always point them in a safe direction, never load them in an unsafe place, and don't approve of unfit and improper persons having them.

    I mean, guns propel a dense small object at high velocity which is intended to tear through flesh and bone, OK mostly animals for hunting, but often times humans on a grand scale. I accept a half point about target shooters who never hunt.. but is target shooting not essentially a military/hunting practice discipline? Bayoneting sacks of hay would not be a hunting discipline of course, except of course for some pig hunters.

    Acknowledging that rather than ignore the sinister weapon aspect of guns is a mature start of any general discussion on the topic, i.e. "Having got this on and off the table, let's move on to history and technical aspects."

    I'm sure Clarkson isn't necessarily anti-gun but British people would have to be the most anti-gun society in western civilization - Along with Australia.

    @Cordite associating the word hatred with a inanimate object is pointless. Guns are not driven by emotions - The people behind them are.

    Was an entertaining show. A fair dose of tongue-in-cheek comments. Looks like he had a heap of fun too.

    @Sasquatch,

    Fair point about inanimate objects. Yet I don't think Clarkson really means the "hateful" gun he holds is full of hatred, he is just using an odd English idiom for an object which, although very interesting is nevertheless also repulsive (OK, not repulsive to all, but to a sufficiently large number of people to mean it cannot be dismissed as cranky, thus we carry our guns in cases).

    I note that British society's strict gun laws don't reflect Brits' gun love - just look at UK gun crime statistics. Many Brits clearly love guns, and the more so when they "can't have them". Well, many clearly can, anyway. Same goes for their strict knife laws.

    I persevered, watched it all, and actually enjoyed it and learned some things along the way. Who knew the gun had done so many positive things for society? Yeh lots of people have been killed by guns but so to have lots of people been killed by sticks, stones, knives, spears, arrows, swords and so on across time. The development of the gun from its early beginnings to what is around today will be seen as but a small evolutionary step when it gets compared to the Rushy Zapper 3000 laser plasma proton eliminator that I have now been inspired to invent.

    I view guns for what they are, an evolutionary step of man through the ages to find an advantage and a better way to kill ( generally their fellow man ).
    They are designed to kill from a distance . They are inanimate tools that have being refined, improved and used by man in numerous conflicts across the globe.

    However that is not a negative statement, they have been used for both evil and good and will be around for a long time till @Rushy gets his zapper perfected.
    What we use them for wasn't in the original concept for use but the aren't alone there, Archery, shot put, javelin , discus are all used and enjoyed in sports these days.

    Hell a parachute wasn't designed to throw yourself out of a perfectly good plane or off the edge of a cliff but again that's evolved into a sport .

    I always pictured Rushy as someone who would be happiest chasing a roll of cheese down a steep hill in the UK.
