Thread: Classy 222's/223's

The other day @sneeze (I think) alluded to an inclination to procure a Shultz & Larsen Legacy (their mini action model) - well that got me thinking about really classy "mini" action rifles- walnut and blued steel only need apply! My Howa mini is functional enough but its more in the class of a tool rather than a heirloom .

Provoked as per the above I had a good scan of the interweb and the Schultz and Larsen is indeed very very nice. It got me thinking about what else might be out there, and I came across the Anschultz 1771 series, and damn, they are very nice too. I wonder about a head to head between these two - which would most suit us in NZ? Anyone seen either actually offered here? Cost?

So what else is there in this sort of class ?? Cooper is another that springs to mind but we seem to see less of them here than the Euro offerings.

Someone will no doubt suggest a Sako but Beretta NZ offerings are a no-go for me.

Jongmans and Weatherby, but gosh I don't know has them, oh yes me.

Shooter supplies has an interesting Brno single shot .222 I didn't get a good look at it. It wasn't the K1 model. Nice little rifle.

Graham Champion in New Plymouth has some beautiful Sako Vixens.

Sako offer a great platform for a .222

Got a CZ 527 FS while not quite there but I'm happy with it!

Those Anschultz 1771 are nice but not much more than beefed up rimfire actions. In fact I think I recall "factory ammunition only" being stamped on them. The way us Kiwis like to hot rod everything up they might not be suitable.

Years,ago i had a brno fox 222, had it reamed to 223, then sold it. I never coukd get a handle on that single stack magazine.
It was as accurate as hell in both incarnations mind you.

@stug I've looked at it. It's a BRNO ZBK-110. The action was super tight - nearly jammed my bloody hand when closing the thing. It's probably had very little use.

When was that Bruce?? - the "current" ones are front locking three and six lug designs that go right up to 30-06 etc (in at least two sizes).

I looked at the 1770 , nice rifle but compared to the S&L it had a slower twist, smaller mag and the wood on the ones I saw was pretty average. Legacy is also a switch barrel so that appealed to me as well. I was going to bring in another cooper but the legacy was in country and I had an itch

Are you thinking of the older rear locking models, looked like the Model 54 on steriods? The latter ones are a proper three lug front locking.

I had a BSA Hunter and they are nice BUT parts are very hard to get (like break and extractor and you're stuffed) and modern triggers are better . . . .

That’s the problem with some of the earlier small actions is getting parts if something breaks ...

Also CRF actions in .222 or similar cals are tricky to get feeding well IMO .
