Most US mag reviews of Colt ARs in the last 3-4 years have been RUBBISH - they DO NOT rate them at all - almost like a ongoing joke over there.
Their wanky stuff appears OK, but far different from Plain-Jane type AR
oh ok i just typed in AR comparison chart on google and a guy called rob s has a few charts and colt seems to tick all the boxes ? or am i looking in the wrong place ?
My 6940 upper is fault less
Is yours an older model Nevis?

Nope late manufacture
Where did you buy that from and if I may ask how much?

As I said the wanky stuff appears OK, but the run of the mill gets laughed at - 6940 isnt run of the mill - quite wanky :)
Was actually reading ANOTHER article last night in Guns and Ammo in which they were taking the piss.
I'll grab a reference to it tonight if you're interested
Rob S's chart, if it makes you feel better buying from it then knock yourself out, but 3/4+ of the list can be ignored in the real world.
Not having parkerizing under the front sight, isnt going to cause a gun to malfunction and cost you your life in combat or civilian life, infact I'd prefer EVERY one of my barrels to NOT have park under it as a machined in the white surface is always going to seal better than a parked surface
MPI testing of barrels? come on!! If someone said they MP tested the grip screw and dust cover does it make it a better gun as it has more ticks in the boxes?
Would you buy a Norinco if those boxes were ticked? 10 mins in a test booth would tick the MP boxes - I sure as hell wouldnt
There is no mention in that list of machining quality, fitment, accuracy, function.. you know, the stuff that ACTUALLY matters
You will NEVER get agreement, and some of the info you get will contradict itself given the same mfg makes both parts.
A guy thats put 5-10k rds through various different guns etc is prob better indication rather than some guys compiled list from forums or magazine articles IMO
People get all tied up on 'Bushmaster' or 'Colt' as being 'THE' AR because they are the names you hear 1st in movies etc.
You can buy a Bushmaster at Walmart for fuck all.
Same with 1911s.. most people dont know what a 1911 is, but you mention Colt 45 and they know what you're talking about
'Colt 45, semiautomatic... plaaaaaaaaaydddooooough' (I watched that movie 100x as a kid - bonus points if you know what movie that was from - no cheating! :D )
Bushmaster is overpriced and underfeatured
Colt 45 is a 40oz of malt liquor
16" carbine shitty forends etc etc
Ok see where you're coming from, but 'features' are an individuals preference no?
16" is a feature YOU might not want as you want say 14.5, but the next guy wants 11 or 18 NOT 14.5, so is 14.5 a shitty feature? course not just not everyones cup of tea.
They are guys that want rifles 'as issued' so they can dress up in camo and roll round their lounge pretending to be GI Joe, others that want quad rails and levers everywhere so they can hang torches and lazers and tin openers etc on them, and those that want almost plain jane, 'does the job'
For ME, a quad rail for example is a UNWANTED feature now, give me round foreends any-day - I think I'm down to 3? quads - rest all round
Barrel length - can always make it shorter?
Spose its like buying a car?
Someones always going to back Holden or Ford and hate the other
I meant 16" barrels with carbine gas actually but yeah
interesting thanks spanners for your input much appreciated, I'm starting to think a cmmg will do me fine and is an AR i can grow with as beavis suggested on another post i really cant find much wrong with them, cmmg possibly the best AR for the money available in NZ ? would you consider that a fair call ?
I only have the 1 CMMG lower at the mo and its a 9mm so not really apples with apples, but the the machine quality on recent DPMS and Doublestar lowers is very good and they are done at the same outfit, so and educated guess is that CMMG will be good also.
I have other CMMG bits, and very happy with them
As Beavis may have said, you WILL grow with it - I doubt there are many people around that their ARs are the same as when they brought them.
I'll put a box on it that within 2 years time you will be sick of quad rails haha :D
Noone knows my movie quote? :(
Im thinking the same about quad rails, have an nea 15 quite a slim foregrip but has a rail on top handy, rail underneath and two short ones at the front on each side. Dont see the need to attach lights, lazers, front pistol grip, all to add weight and make it look like a swat team weapon only to take it hunting and get caught up in twigs and branches alike and start cursing the bloody thing.
the NEA forend is awful
I sold my quadrail because I no longer have night vision so I don't need rails. Tube forend best forend. I don't see how I could improve on my current setup greatly beyond higher quality components

I would call it awful, slim enough for a decent grip, but in the cold weather that alloy will be real cold to hang onto without gloves, those troy ones look good or maybe the hogue one.
Hogue is pretty gross too, no top rail for sights and heavy
Thatll be the next upgrade troy forend, timney trigger.
I don't need BUIS, but I like using irons and with a Hogue tube there's no option for mounting them except a FSB which means you'd have to have a carbine length tube (on my gas system, anyway) and longer tube is better, lets you get the support hand out closer to the muzzle
NEA have a new rail on the way - I have no idea what it will be like. My personal favorites are the Samson or Troys. Probably more the Samson at this stage as its diameter fits my hand and it allows a suppressor to fit inside. The Troys are slimmer. The NEA, Troys and Samson rails all fit directly onto the standard barrel nut - no need to remove the existing nut and the gas assembly to fit something proprietory.
The CMMG lowers we have are nice. Its a pity they are so difficult to get at this stage.
Can I pre order a cmmg digit?

PM me to discuss - our intention was to sell the cmmg's as a DIY kit with everything you need - CMMG lower/upper/lpk + A2 stock and Ergo grip - this was to keep the price low. But we also now have some other brands in the process of being secured. Youre local too so you can always swing buy to have a look etc. PM me for details.
If I was starting out I would buy a sub 2K CMMG.
I just got a set of DPMS rifle handguards for my A3/A4 rifle build and I'm not happy. They look like they were made by a retard in the dark with a blunt pair of scissors. The heat shields look like chopped up coke cans hammered into the shitty handguards. Not relevant to the thread but need to vent.
By the way how hard is it to get a ar15 pistol grip in nowadays?

Not difficult at all
