Considering upgrading from 7mm08 to possibly 270 or something else

Hi I have been looking at upgrading my old 7mm08 to something a bit lighter weight and more effective at longer ranges. Was looking at a .270 but I was just wondering if thats much of an upgrade from a 7mm08.
I normally hunt Tararua or Ruahine ranges and shoot anywhere from 20m to 300m.

300m. Just keep the 7mm08. More than enough for that distance.

The words 270 and "upgrade" don't belong together

That's not an upgrade the 7-08 will do those ranges and some just load it correctly

7mm08 is more than capable. Good factory choices150 grain eldx the Norma tip strike. And some good glass.
Ps. 270's are awesome but you have all you need.

I feel so offended. I think I'm going to have a sit down and write a letter.

Buy a .270, set it up for your open country and longer range work, chop the 7mm/08 down short so suppressor that can be shared between both is down hard on forend( well just clear of it) and you will have best of both worlds. Plenty of good .270s going cheaply lately... You know you really want to try something different so why the heck not.

Haha I was considering a 7mmrm but they get expensive to feed and way more rifle than I need

A 16" 7mm08 will still do the business at 300m no problem.

It‘s not wise to spend money on something that is not much different from what you‘ve got already when you don’t have the finances to play around!
