Very interesting indeed. Any one know where you can buy WD40 specialist corrosion inhibitor? Or frog lube?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
frog lube is at lots of places ..... taieri arms , gun city , etc etc ...
That special WD40 does not seem available in nz
Frog lube? Sounds dodgy as
I use frog lube all the time on my "smaller" barrels ..... seems to make them easier to clean ...smells nice , I need to go over the AR with it , I use a heat gun to open the pores of the metal and wipe frog semen all over it , ... you sure as shit cant dispute the anti corrosion properties of the stuff looking at that article ..... as for the wd special sauce , I may check out places like BNT or more specialised places .... not repco
I use EESOX
Just read on TFB that Frog Lube is pretty much coconut oil with a few additives to keep it from solidifying in cooler temps. Who woulda thunk it
yes frog lube its coconut oil works good though unless you put too much on
Buy coconut oil online at countdown.co.nz
So not half a jar at a time? Looking forward to my AR smelling like a Pina Colada when it gets hot hahaha
Did a similar experiment 40 odd years ago and found the very best rust inhibiter was lanolin. My experiment wasnt as detailed or with as many products but with sheet iron coated with a variety of products including WD40 and dipped in the tide at Titahi Bay beach every second day, the lanolin/white spirits mix was without peer. Also makes a brilliant case lube . Used to be able to buy lanolin without any difficulty. Havent seen it around lately.
somewhere in my files (ahem)I have a formula for a powder solvent and gun lube from Frankford Arsenal dated 1800's which includes amoungst many other exotics lanolin at 5% that claims to prevent rust in black powder bores ,cannons etc. I made a batch up many years ago and found it worked very well. Sometimes the old stuff is just fine. I did note however that in a 22 unless you really cleaned up all traces of it from the bore it took about 40 rounds for the bore to condition.
Lanolin now impossible to purchase. I spoke w several wool scourers. All product either exported or immediately reprocessed here. Lanolin is a trendy skin care product and has been tied up. Grrrrrr

Prob costs a bomb though
Lanolin Anhydrous BP grade -250ml- Cheapest on TM | Trade Me
what i use, $15
Sheesh. Does it go w humble pie?
Not at all. Makes sense to process to value add. Took a bit of searching to find it, but 100 gr = what? 8 or 10 or more tablespoons? Each spray bottle of case lube at the gun shop is $25, but once it settles you can clearly see it's a tablespoon or less of lanolin and 200ml of meths hahaha. It's an amazing substance, obvious why sheep don't give a damn about rain
EDIT: It's also awesome on leather

I been using one of these for 5-6 years.guns stored for 22 months while in Oz,some had a bit of mould on the woodwork but no sign of rust.
Top products.
Engineering supplies in hawkes bay have lanolin in an aerosol can.
Saeco bearings n transmission cnr omahu rd n stoneycroft have cans of it.
Saw it yesterday
I use plenty of it
Oh yeah that's right, Lanocote. Comes as a spray or in a tub. Repco carries it too.
I have been using Inox for years (not tested of course...) and am very happy with it. They also do a product called Lanox which has lanolin in it. A bit stickier.
better than smelling like sheep! unless your that way inclined

I tried to get some WD40 Long Term.. in NZ but not imported/retailed.
I did however talk a Hastings outfit (Shyn4u) into getting in some Corrosion-X and it's as good as they claim
