    Day/night scopes

Ive been watching several forumites "progress" with the lokes of the Arken Zulu with great interest. Certainly @Mintie and @Tahr are making good use of their's.

What Im wondering about are the limitatations of the current generation of units (the Pard 35, Zulu etc) and what is coming soon - is the "next" generation going to add much?

    Thoughts Gentlemen?

It's a matter of the rest of the night vision pack catching up with the Arken Zulus and Hikmicro Apex 4K now. At the moment value for money the Zulus is hard to beat.
Sytong are about to release the HT-70 which is set to compete with the Zulus. That will be worth watching because Sytong seem to make good stuff. I understand that it will be in that $1,100 bracket.

Look at this clip from last night with the Zulus. An hour after shooting light. No IR illumination (colour turned off because B&W is sharper after dark). 230 yards.

    https://youtu.be/A0e7IICDaI0

I find the limitation is that the field of view is a bit limited (but you can get a 2-12 Zulus). Ive got the 5-20. And on the the Zulus the focus can be quite critical/touchy. Not a major though. They are at their best when you are shooting off a rest although I do use mine off my knees. The IR is good to about 300 yards for deer and Ive shot wallaby at 250 or so. Ive got clips of deer out to 500 yards that I reckon I could have bowled in the IR if I had wanted to. Not recommended though.

They are damned good in the day and dusk although I found mine a bit sensitive to direct sun light on the wallaby and a couple of times I couldn't shoot onto a face for a wee while. It might have happened with an ordinary scope too 'cos Brian and Rod were having trouble where they were too.

The ballistic hold over in them is brilliant.

Lastly, they seem robust. I haven't touched mine and it's been through the wringer.

The next step tech wise is blended IR night vision and thermal together, available now on high end stuff but I'm sure the rest will catch up at better value soon.

Blended makes the best of both worlds, especially with the thermal outline modes highlighting the outline of hot object onto the colour or NV image.

The Arken Zulu and Pard 35 are great options for their price range. If those limitations aren't dealbreakers for your intended use, they might be perfectly suitable.

If you prioritize the latest tech and are willing to invest more, waiting for the next generation might be worth it.
If the current limitations aren't critical for your usage, the current generation offers a good balance of performance and affordability.
Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and budget. Let me know if you'd like to explore specific features or functionalities in more detail to help you decide.

I've been testing the new Sytong HT-70 - actually landed the first one worldwide to have a play with. Took this video last night on rabbits at 240y - pushing the limits on small fury animals at long range. Easily shootable with suitable calibre.

Like the Arken Zulus, The Sytong HT-70 features range finder and ballistics. Where it excels is the very large depth of field. You don't need to fine tune the focus. Its build quality is also inline with their other current products - built to take a beating.

@Mintie you can get a clip on thermal imager for nvgs. Have a look at Fraser’s website.

That’s multispectral where you can select either nv or thermal or display both Picture in Picture? I think Mintie is talking about fusion that blends both.

Do you have any clips on a night without so much celestial lighting as the moon was essentially full on the 23rd.
It would be good to compare the image to a night where the digital NV is working harder and requiring some infrared top up.

    @Moutere

This was after dark using IR,

    This too.

This was not such a dark night but longer range with IR on. About an hour and half after shooting light.

No IR. After shooting light the same night as the bunch of hinds clip. About 45 mins before I saw the hinds I think.

Thanks, they’re a surprisingly good image for a consumer grade unit.
