Dead wood on the tree of firearms evolution

These are features which were necessary or seemed like a good idea but now destined to be eliminated.

I don' t have time to explain all the reasons this morning but I expect they will be self evident. am happy to argue if anyone thinks they should be conserved.

    SLOTTED BEDDING SCREWS
All eventually munted by amateurs like me. Could take a week or a decade but they will fray.

    SAKO DOVETAIL MOUNT
Fantastic foolproof for those mounting their own scope but locks the owner in with few easy aftermarket.

    STRANGE SHAPED SCOPE LENSES
Eg Weaver wide field and Leupold VX-L
Amazing they dont fog . Never really caught on.

    BELTED MAGNUMS
Early monopoly has locked them in but considered dodgy by reloaders.

BALLISTIC RETICLES ON SECOND FOCAL PLANE SCOPES
Eg Boone and Crockett. How can you use a system that is only accurate at some random sub maximum magnification ?

    Any further suggestions ?

Actually I like a busy SFP reticle. By use of zoom you can get the marks to line up with a large number of ranges. Wasn't too bad on a non dialling scope I had.

Electronic primer ignition - Remington Ectronx(?). Proprietary ammunition = dismal failure.

Isnt that what the school girl asked the chauffeur when he was changing a flat tyre and could get the hub cap off? Do you want a Screw Driver?
