Yeah, fair play, .25 Souper would be much less obtuse.

    Deer Rifle 270 or 25-06

Yeh, I as well wonder why smaller is asked about? Both longer action but then the make of the rifle makes all the difference, the tikka for instance is basically the same weight in most calibre's apart from longer barrel lengths.
These new bullet types make the 100grain bullet a dependable choice for most game within reason.
Within 250m and mainly open hunting I'd suggest however a 308 or a "7mm08".Reload the 130 grain or 120 grain TTSX Barnes bullets for no recoil but also with factory offerings a plenty...
I will buy a 25-06 one day though. They seem cool. Or should that be the 270-08 lol.

out of these I would get a 25-06 with a suppressor, low noise , low kick, 100-117 grn projectile, good all rounder.

there is no need for ether at that sort of distance almost any cal would work a 243 for example is a great goat and deer gun at that sort of distance or pretty much anything on the 308 case would be sweet as at that sort of distance on goats or almost any deer there's a few bigger breeds that would was something with a little more knock down

    I'd buy a 270, if,
I get a named brand, medium weighted, lightly used second hand one with a 24" barrel, threaded for 14x1, with proven accuracy, that has been professionally bedded in an exquisitely figured Walnut stock for less than $400.00.

    Otherwise I'd get a 25-06.

Go for the 25-06 or the 25/08 IMP makes a great short rifle both will shoot the 117grn at around 3100fps

Or a 308 will shoot a 130gr at 3100-3200fps and cut a clean hole with barnes.

If you have been using a 270 and do good with it then buy a 270
if you want to be able to buy ammo nearly at "every chemist" buy a 308 or 270
If you are a hunter (not a shooter) and don't reload buy a 308 or 270
either will do the job and the deer will not complain
but if you are like me and like to "shoot" and mess around reloading, making brass etc, etc then the worlds your oyster
