dirty barrel.
hey guys ive got a question, and would love to know your thoughts and would really appreciate some advice.
i have a mosin nagant i clean it with sweets 7.62 solvent and the riffling comes out very shiney but the lands in between the rifling stay really dirty like a residue or something. that runs the full lenght of the barrel.. i use a 303cal brush to scrub it.
ive tried carbon cutter but that did not do anything. its got me so stumped.
the bore is in choice condish. cheers fellaz

Blueing?
And your calling the lands the bits that bite into the bullet right?

Hoppes (or sweets)
If that doesn't work, then try butch's bore shine (pretty much neat ammonia)
If that still does not work, try jb paste

Sounds like the blueing, my one does the same. If I leave Balistol in there a month later a clean patch comes out blue, especially the grooves, dont worry about it.

so the blueing in side the barrel is all old and worn ya rekon?
-
I was thinking if it was blueing you hadn't worn it out yet.
Still not entirely sure if you are talking about the bore or lands.
its possible it will never appear shiny even if clean.
If your using generous amounts of sweets wait 15min tight dry patch then bronze brush and repeat till patches are clean I doubt its dirty.

its a mosin nagant from 1929 , ahhh inbetween the rifling spirals all the way through the barrel mate. i think thats what they call the lands.? yeh i always give it a good scrub and wait 10 to 15 and the 4x2 patches are coming out clean as a whistle. ive been shooting the barnual 203gr sp ammo through it
-
Does it shoot well? if it does no further effort is needed
-
haha nor west i can hit a barn house door at 150m. i should probley try some different ammo through it to see if i can get a better grouping. but shes been working well for me in the scrub.
cheers

Lands are the spirally bit that groove the bullet and make it spin
The bore(or grooves) is the rest of it that is the same size as the bullet.
That old it is most likely pitted from corrosive ammo/neglect,,If the goats fall over don't worry about it:thumbsup:
