Ahh Now onto the curly questions.
What makes a "good" barrel?
Im sure we have all seen a horrible barrel that shoots.
Likewise a nice one that wont.
So what makes a good barrel?
Surface finish must only be a part of it,Ie consistent bore dia and or choke. Consistent twist rate or consistent gain for gain twist.Consistent land hight and thickness. Straightness of bore. And of course profile and length.
I know fu$k all about all this but understand if you swage a lead/copper slug threw a tight bit it wont fit snugly in the loose bit.
So what is the most important bit for an accurate barrel?
Concerntricity, accuracy in tolerances would be a start.
Length has a play as well.

Concentricity would be more chambering and fitting to the action. Im talking about the tube itself.
No Cam, concerntricity through out the barrel.
I have looked through a few badly turned ones. It effects the pressures and impacts on the projectile.
In saying that I have seen bad ones that shoot very well too a certain distance.

Pretty sure straight barrels seem to shoot well...... Take a lathe to the barrel shop boys
I have found nice tight bore to be good performers, barrel has to look good if it dont then they foul an may shoot well but have to scrub the cunt every 10shots an thats just a pain in the arse.
rifleing height not realy a issue as its aways the same when button cuts/pulled through.
I dont have gear to measure the barrel any futher than 6" down , i dont know how you would? so that one you would never know? but again the button comes in here
thats why button rifle makes have different grades, if it dont make the cut it goes doen, but cut rifling barrels are just the one grade its either good or scrap
contour is accuracy but still not much better heavy than light just a heavy barrel will hold accuracy longer in more shot strings
my 2c again no expert
Pretty much mate.
Abe probably says it better.

Its not uncomman for then not to be straight but not really a issue. i dont know how you would measure the bore dia right through? other than something push through an by feel?? how accurate is that
I watched a work mate cut about 6" off a barrel a couple of years back. The barrel had about 8mm runnout in the middle! but the hole up it was straight:wtfsmilie: so when it was cut the bore was miles off center of the barrel:D
It was a rossi (not Dads one)
