Thread: DPT brake end cap

A shout out to DPT for their new braked end caps that fit on end of the suppressor. Ran some fairly stout loads thru my 300WSM, 180gn & 200gn pills. Recoil was very manageable & pleasant to shoot. Muzzle jump was still evident but considering the light weight set up this was not too surprising. Overall very impressed with DPTs new brake end cap. Well done lads.

Good to here. I'm keen to give one a go once I've settled on a load.

Can't wait to try mine out on the 300 PRC

I've got one on my Tikka .270, definitely a pleasure to shoot ����

They work very well, I have supplied quite a few of them & have one on a personal rifle

Did you happen to fire any shots with the normal end cap? Interested if you are seeing much difference in point of impact with the brake cap
Could be different with different rifles perhaps

Were do these actually become usefull? We know suppressors are not hearing safe in standard form so Im assuming the addition of of the break cap would definitely mean hearing protection? If you are going to carry ear protection then why not use a brake, cheaper, lighter , dosn't add as much to the length and has better recoil reduction. Im happy to be convinced otherwise but these seem to be the worst of both worlds.

They "become useful" in that they reduce recoil more than just a suppressor whilst still reducing noise to a level that doesn't cause your ears to bleed.
You should probably still use ear pro with a dedicated suppressor without a braked end cap, the reality is that almost Noone does.
Even suppressed gunfire will damage your hearing, the braked suppressor yes it will damage your hearing without ear pro but not anywhere near the ear bleeding concussion of a directional brake.
Yup you could run a lighter much smaller dedicated brake for the benefits they provide but there are tradeoffs with that too(ear bleeding if you take a snap shot without your ear pro).
I've tried both, I like the braked suppressor, to be fair without measuring equipment I couldn't pick the difference in noise as a shooter, but I could definitely feel the difference in recoil reduction (placebo effect maybe but it works for me).
Maybe the direction the ports vent the gas doesn't affect the shooter behind the but ? (stand next to someone using a brake vs behind them you'll see what I mean).
Who knows maybe it is just marketing and I'm a sucker for it, but maybe it's not.

Maybe they are not for everyone, but I certainly like them, as I said when discussing with another member today, there aren't many times where I would prefer more recoil over a very slight increase in muzzle report. That's my 2 cents, certainly not trying to convince anyone else they need one, each to their own

About the only time I'd prefer a non braked cap would be if I was bush hunting where sound is more likely to be reflected back at you.....but then I'm hardly likely to do much of that with my 300prc
