DPT can you do these with smaller ports, slightly longer, but a rotating cover to shut them off if you don't want the brake for whatever reason? A "best of both worlds" option? As someone stated up a bit, prone shots over pumice for one example and shooting with a radial brake is a very good way to fark your scope's lenses, I sandblasted a mates scope accidentally like that and it was lucky that it was a cheapy that was on it's last trip anyway. Rooted the front lens coating near totally.
As far as noise, if the can has reduced the gas velocity then the expectation would be that the braked end would be noisier than suppressed, but not as bad as a straight muzzle or a braked end I would expect. It would be a useful option when shooting pests and needing more muzzle control for follow up shots, and I would think that it would still scramble the noise signature enough to help stop animals from knowing exactly where the shot originated from. I think this would have it's place to be fair.
