Depends on the donar rifle and what's available. I basically have exactly what you're talking about - Tikka M595 rechambered from 7mm08 to .284win.
It has been a great rifle that I used for ''Deer Management'' in the UK for 2 years and have used it a lot for most of my hunting prior to a couple years ago. I'd hate to add up how many deer I've shot with it, but its never let me down once - I'm the weak link, not the rifle.
I really like it because it got a tad more grunt than a 7mm08, but not too much recoil or muzzle blast like a big magnum has.
But you'll need to do some maths to work out if its worth the $. If you can get a secondhand 7mm08 then its not going to cost very much to do...but if you start with a 22.250 then its going to cost a lot.
But as already said, a 7mmRM will do it all a little better, but with a bit more recoil/muzzle blast etc etc...
