Thread: From E-Cat to A-Cat?

Is removing the hand piece really the only thing you need to do in order to sell it as an a-cat? What if you purchase the rilfe and the put on a hand piece at home - is it now an e-cat?

You mean the pistol grip? No, it's still A cat... currently.

Right so they are selling it with out the pistol grip so they have a "clean conscious". Whens that law likely to change?

Seems to be anyone's guess at the moment. Was supposed to be March but have read that it has been moved to June?

E-cat firearms serial numbers are registered on police system as such, it is illegal to use a A-cat firearm in an E-cat configuration.
you cannot just add or remove parts to shift it from A to E. or vice versa. The firearm is either one or the other. (or if an A-cat firearm in and E configuration it is an Illegal A-cat.)

But in a couple of months it WILL cost you a new safe and possibly ecat license fees

hopefully they come to their senses, and just make high cap mags an E requirement, so surely they must realise a pistol grip or adjustable stock, or hell even a flash hider, doesnt make any firearm any more dangerous.
anything with mag over 7rnd centerfire or 15 rimfire is E-cat. and done. end of story.

wickd , best statement on this forum this week ,we should all get behind that idea!!!!

All of these things should be classed as an E cat all you need is the 20rnd mag that has been sitting in the draw for the last 20 years to be put in it to make it E cat they are both the same weapon just a bigger mag

We can get behind the idea all we want, but the new act has already been passed and submitted for assent, come the start of November, even if the police do absolutely nothing there will be a solid portion of the firearms owning population of New Zealand turned into criminals overnight.
