Elcan spectre dr

I am considering one of these for my vepr.Sadly there is know where in the country where i live where i can have a look at one.

Does any one have "hands on experience " with one?

If so,what did you think of it?

Yup. Heavy, short eye relief, thick reticle. Designed to mount on an AR so will be a shit fit for a vepr. Excellent glass, great wide FOV, good illumination. Too expensive.

Ticks three out of five boxes any ways.
Better than the other choices where I live. Be interested in any hearing of any other experiances.

Btw. The lop on a vepr is the same as a sharp shooter.

Some good reviews on the Elcan on Youtube, quite poor when it comes to staying on target with the way its mounted.

I agree with everything gimp says.
The fixed 4 power version is noticeably lighter but still heavy compared to a acog.

The mounting system seems to worry people, and it did me as well(you can move the optic by hand) until I shot some groups with heavy pushing and prodding of the optic between every shot-it held zero. I do know of one that had to get the mount replaced after a few months use though.

The ability to switch between 1x and 4x quickly as well as the robustness of the unit are attractive features to me.

Its only going on a hunting rifle though I suppose.

Gimp is the only person I know who has trailed it as a hunting scope.

Personally for the same sort of $ I would take a us optics 1-8 power over it as a hunting scope if you value ruggedness highly, I have not used mine much at all unfortunately but I have been impressed with how it works.
If your happy to step back a little in ruggedness I have used both gen 1 and gen 2 Swarovski 1-6 power scopes with illuminated reticules a fair amount and rate them very highly and they now do a 1-8 power version that I would love to play with.

All these options are more versatile in mounting hight than a elcan and are in the same price bracket in NZ

1-8 Schmidt and bender would go good on a hunting rifle

I find 1-4 is sometimes not enough on a hunting rifle, as others have said, some good 1-6 and 1-8 options out there.
I run a 2-7 or 3-9 on my .308 Vepr with a low Midwest mount and rings so that the scope just clears the rear sight.

A mate reccomended a meopta vari power with the illuminated recticle.Three for the price of an elcan.

There is a used Swaro without the illum recticle for the same price as a meopta with illum.

At the moderate distances i expect to shoot at,I am not sure the extra clarity of a premium scope is worth it.

I do still harbour a unhealthy desire for an elcan, however it does not really sound like its worth the extra bucks frankly.

1-6 VX6 multigun is what I replaced my Elcan with, and I feel like it's better at almost everything. I found the Elcan oddly hard to hit things with in the field. I don't know if it was some odd parallax effect or a result of the thick reticle, or something else entirely but I'd miss easy shots at things for no apparent reason which I don't with the VX6. I had no problems with shifting zero or return to POI with the QD system though. The VX6 isn't particularly well illuminated, has some fishbow distortion, and doesn't have as good of a field of view. Otherwise it's better in every way.
