Not being a gun snob , but if you can stretch your budget beretta ,benelli, you will never regret the purchase . Get a used one that's not done much work , it won't cost much more than a new escort I'd be thinking .
I have never seen a escort in the field , so I don't no there capabilitys . I've owned benelli and beretta and they have never let me down . Make sure a gun fits you firstly .
My first shotgun and the one Ive definitely used the most is a feild hunter, put hundreds of rounds through it without fault. Taken out anything from sparrows to cows. Cant compare to anything as Ive had very little experience with others, definitely one of the best $400 Ive spent though
I have found with semi autos you tend to get what you pay for, unfortunately. But what is your budget
My escort come's out of the safe once every year since 2008 and bags out no fuss everytime, but I never wanted a flash shotty for that reason it dose the job for me Dundee rubs the camo paint job of his they seem to keep charging.
The Escort I had got used as a post rammer, boat oar, and as a duck and pheasant killer. Never missed a beat.
I got so much crap when I bought it, as they had a bad rep, but it was more reliable than my mates brand new Browning Gold Fusion.
Eventually sold it to get a motorbike.
But if I had the choice to get another - nah. Now I know a bit more, than then, I'd go for something a bit better quality and fit.
The EGE brand is supposed to be quite good (a step up from Escort anyway) and are a reasonably priced.
Mate has a Escort Pump action. Goes well. He did have to make a spacer to make the LOP better for him though.
As somebody else stated, make sure it fits you. Thats important.
The older escorts (like 4 or 5 years ago) had a reputation of jamming up. Thats seems to be fixed now. A friend who works in a gun store had alot of the older generation come back with feeding issues and it tarnished escorts name around here but since the problem was fixed in the newer guns he hasnt had one return on any of those. Nothing wrong with them at all as shotguns go. Im not sure if they are all like the one ive got but i dont like the way you have to push a button to feed rounds into the tube. Its not a 3 gun shotty by any stretch of the imagination but it works.
Kotoku swears by his Escort, at least when he's not swearing at it (though that is usually due to him dropping it in the lake). Another option other that the Italian B guns is the Fabarms. Very well made and reliable, extremely soft shooting and 2/3-1/2 of the B guns.
You get what you pay for escorts seem to have got better over the years as have most turkish guns for a little more money a Weatherby sa 08 or a Mossberg 930 i think would be a better bet and plus 1 on the fabarm h4 these are sleepers in the shot gun world and good buying if you can spend a little more again ive got one and just as good as my browning winchester franchi and the other dozen or so ive got
You can't go wrong with an ATA. I've wore one out and bought another two.
Cheap guns can be handy sometimes. I found when you and your gun are laying in the gravel after arsing up from a drainage ditch, your second thoughts are, "thank frig I was hunting with my $250 Tardme gun"
Got two pump action escorts in synthetic black, did have a camo one like Neckshot said but the camo wore off.
Mine get thrashed and no problems
I have no problems scuffing up a quality firearm , if the damage was honestly earned will using the gun for its intended role in life .
Damage to a quality tool of any kind through stupidity or careless actions are a different thing .
My firearms all carry battle scars of some description which I kind of like . Every nick or dent has a story behind it , and bring back memories of good times .
my own escort12g S/A is over 10yrs old and it still trundles along.
It does have its shortcomings but ive always managed to to restore her to working in my mancave, courtesy of another member of other channel who kindly gave me some spare parts.
The key problem with early models was the softness of the bolt carrier arms.If the mag tube got covered in crap and the carrier bound in travel -those arms would bend.
Hence the need for scrupulous cleaning.
As gadget said, mine has had a few dips in the shitty water of ellesmere ,but like its russian cousins still functioned -but once home a quick 10min complete strip clean &inspection had it back on the road.
Recently the gas piston shit itself-a manufacturing fault where a thread was cut into it leaving too little metal to cope with the forces of firing god knows how many thousand rounds.
into the spares boxand bingo away we go.oh yeah the gas ring tore-hmmm look through my O ring collection-likely candidate -stretch it on and bingo bang bang bang we,re back into it.
mine has extended mag -8x 23/4"rds or 7x3"rds.
The other dilemma was trap ammo -she wouldnt cycle.yep "getan itie ,lump of shit ,boat anchor"heard em all.no Imnot going to admit defeat-instead i discovered barry foster of Fosters outdoor centre&stihl shop Blenheim rd CHCH.
Barry imports&sells the excellent HULL(UK) ammo in steel/lead hunting12g and DTL3000(1500fps)trap ammo.oh yeah baby is boogieing again.that rd is the first with common trap rd as 2nd option.luvly to see clouds of dust&flying chips.
My 2nd gun is a Bentley pointer -the jap replica of browning A5 action.Sheslimited to 2 3/4steel as chamber areas are soft alloy and prone to cracking.also fixed1/2choke.
Escort runs 6 choke combos at present.
dont forget this is an early escort gun with manual 2 stage gas regulator.
Finally if one wants a plain jane-dont overlook baikal. Ive a sweet wee o/u (identical to uplanders)on loan and im loving it.the owner had a baikal s/a before that and it was typically a reliable workhorse,as russian guns often are.
like others on here ,I love a fine gun ,but mine are 1st and foremost working tools hence they may been a little crude in mixed company ,but for me they do the job.
Ive got in more shit on ch2 for escort defence than anything ,but to me its just good ol devils advocate.hehehehe
actually before i go -another member on other channel got hold of me having bought a nice wee presentation model escort(?20G)for his wife.It was non functioning and gunsmith was happy to ofer other options.hmm-quick strip-yup bolt carrier armhad a ben like ell mcphersons bust line and mag tube looked like interior of coal fired boiler.Itok most of the bend out ,and was confident it could be remedied ,tho i think he bought her another gun.
other advantage here -very simple systems to work on .
SHORT STORY Sorry if you need 50,000 words to describe a shottie its 49050 too many Devils advocate #2 you could buy a Beretta put 5000 rounds thru it clean it and put another 5 K thru it with out having to do what the factory should have in the first place !! Also without having to write a book He he wait for it !,
 :yaeh am not durnk:
The man asked for an opinion on escort shotguns.gadget mentioned meand i gave an opinion warts and all.if you dont like it happy(a misnomer??)dont bloody read it -no ones forcing you to. you can keep your itie,Idont think a dead duck would know the bloody difference Mr Pedantic
If I brought my wife a "very nice presentation model escort" I would be a dead man especially if I had to "strip it down"
However if you are single then the nice thing about escorts is they don't get all bent out of shape when you swap them for another one............................................. :)
from what i read about nelson on the web-it seems to have more than its share of "bent" humans,so god knows what the escort field is like.
:bouaaaaah:-one bag or two mikee -cmon you can tell us .
Mate it wasn't personal note the grin plus thumbs up it was tongue in cheek No intent to offend sorry . I think that's why we have those smileys etc. Merry Xmas !!
Hopefully the OP has enough info to make his purchasing decision and gets the joy of the odd feed from what ever he buys
no worries
Nasty, nasty pieces of junk. You should have left it at the bottom of lake Ellesmere kotuku, best place for them :)
