    Exceeding cartridge limit for suppressor?

What, if any, problem is there in going a little bit over the stated maximum cartridge size for a suppressor?

I want to put a used Hardy Gen VI can on my 7mmWSM. Hardy's list of suitable cartridges for the Compact (which I believe is the new name for the Gen VI) goes up to 300SAUM but does not include 7WSM - that cartridge is listed under the Stealth.

I'd have thought 300SAUM and 7WSM would be much of a muchness, with max. pressure & velocity slightly higher for the SAUM according to Wikipedia.

Am I missing something? Or over-thinking it?

If it makes any difference, the suppressor in question is .25 - .284 cal.

Why not just phone Hardys, better than asking on here where you will get a lot of answers from people who mean well but really don't know.

I had emailed and phoned but couldn't reach them. I've since had a reply confirming it's all good providing barrel length is over 20".

Look at the gns of powder you are burning compared to the gns of powder used in the cartridge sizes they list as suitable for the suppressor. ie, theoretically a 7saum being a magnum should be ok in a suppressor for a 280ai or similar . As powder amount is equivalent. Still best to ask them though.

I use a non-magnum .30cal suppressor on my .300wsm, just added 2 extra baffles, gunsmith said it should be fine
    Just my 2 cents

If its a dpt non magnum you are running on a magnum rifle, its definitely not suitable no matter how many baffles you run. You will be over pressuring the rear chamber.

Probably because if you get the same service I received, it would put you off ever going back to them again.......

I had an issue with my older hardy can. It was well out of warranty and I asked if they could have a look at it and how much it would cost....response was "there is no way my cans can do that - It must be the rifle" I have since found the issue, and decided that the service from a local manufacturer was so much better that I binned the hardy and got one that worked.....
