    Factory 308 ammo options

So I have brought a Bergara 308 takedown, away getting the chop to 17 - 18 inch barrel.
1 -12 twist rate. I don't reload anymore and really don't want to go back to it either.
It will be used on deer ( reds and fallow ) out to maybe 400 yards or so .
Just wondering what my options are in factory loaded ammo . I have used Corelocks in the pass and Fiocchi SP , both work fine .
Does anyone have something else they prefer or recommend trying , hollow points , ballistic tips ??
Really just after options and opinions at this point .

    Cheers Viper

My 1-8 Twist .308 one(now sold) did not really like 150gn Sako Gamehead 1-2 inches was best it could manage. (Same ammo in the Tikka that replaced it does 1/2 inch repeatable)
However 168gn ELD-M handloads shot 1/2 inch groups and were repeatable. I was going to try Federal Fusion 165gn or 165gn Sako Gamehead II but instead I channeled my inner Ryan and Philipo and sold it after only owing it for 5 minutes

Anything around 150grn soft point or Spitzer will do the job well

if you going somewhere where range will likely be under 150 yards, more likely 50 yards, the winchester 180grn powerpoint bog stndard stuff is the ducks nuts....the 150grn load the same is good...really good but the 180 just hits a bit harder up close and the recoil shove is LESS....
Dusty Fog had some buffalo river stuff...pretty sure it had a 165grn sierra ???? projectile so it would be a very good factory option to look at for out further...now PERSONALLY I would steer well clear of hornady superpreformance......my limited experience says its WAY TO HOT for my liking...others swear by it,I swear at it.

Fed blue box 150gr always served me well.

Belmont 130gr HP always seems to shoot extremely well but it is a light frangible projectile.

Hornady whitetail 150gr have worked in a couple of 308s I've had. Superperformance was even better but quite a bit more $$

Any boring 150gr soft point cup and core will do the job 308 is such a good killer that even the highland stuff works well and is all I ran for years in my teens

If you want to shoot out to a decent range I reckon the 168gr eldm hornady match ammo or the 150sst superperformance.

My T3 shoots factory 150gr Superperformance SST into around an inch at best. Same rifle shoots 150gr Winchester SuperX SP into half inch.

Will reload 150gr BT once I've shot this stuff out.

    Federal blue box 150s.

If you wanted to try some Tipped stuff try the fiocchi 150s with SST's. Ran the 95gr stuff through a mates 243 through the chrony and it was super consistent with a low ES.

You could also try the Sako stuff. If I'm correct they do a 165gr load with sierras loaded on top? Memory is a bit shit at the moment with a new family member.

If only you knew a guy just up the road who likes mucking around with reloading.... and happens to have 308 dies sitting on the shelf.
