How nice would a modern reproduction of a Farquharson be with oiled walnut, scroll engraving, leaf sights and a claw mounted scope....

Look up Soroka rifles. Glenn Soroka is a Kiwi making beautiful Farquharson repros in modern calibres. I have had my hands on a couple and they are very very good.

Might be a little out of my price range, and I would never be able to handle one as I am sure I would start drooling all over it. Damn they are gorgeous.

Ruger No.1s come up on TM regularly in the 1.5-2k price range . . they would make a nice custom rifle if you wanted to put some dollars into them for a keeper rifle
or go mad and buy new . . theyre not that expensive when you look at other rifles in that style.

you really should have at least one falling block in the safe

I think Wilson's sports has a Ruger No1 in 257 Roberts. Is listed on Trademe.

They are very uncommonly encountered in NZ but the Browning Hi-Wall (or even better Low-Wall) as manufactured by Miroku are very nice. I have a Low-Wall in 22 K Hornet, its a beaut wee rifle, one day it will get another barrel into something a bit harder hitting. Hayes associates also import the Italian copies of the original Hi-Walls but these are not really styled for NZ hunting.
