    Fast twist 243 Criterion

    Gidday Folks - I'm pondering a fast twist 243 .
. after a difficult 6mm CM experience that I'd like to set behind me.

A fast high BC 6mm projectile still ticks a lot of my boxes - and I see there is Criterion fast twist barrel on offer.

So tell me about your experiences with Criterion barrels and fast twist 243's

    Cheers

nah..let ME ask YOU a couple or four questions so you can solve your own riddle....

#1 why fast twist???? to chuck heavier than 100 grn projectiles????

    # 2 what do you want rifle to be able to achieve that a std twist cant???

    # 3 is the percieved gain worth the actual expence???

    # 4 can you achieve ...say 95% of this percieved goal with std twist and a lighter high BC projectile ???? if so,see#3

    hope that helps.

The fast twist advantage is "bucking wind" and i went down the fast twist 6mm two or three years ago after a bad day out trying to shoot varmints at decent ranges in a strong wind - with a 223!

I hear what you mean. In regards to 264 win magnums, their industry standard is 1-9. As such they generally run the old school 140 grainers pretty well for the most part.
BUT the new high BC projectiles are 142 and up and are usually recommended for 1-8 or more and most wont shoot them well.
Very much like the 243. 1-10 twist but you will find individual rifles will shoot 100 trainers well, others not so much. Which I believe is why Nosler do 90 and 95gr BSTs
There are 105s which work very well a bit further out in the 6mms but do usually need a faster twist

Pretty sure I've looked at the same barrel several times and thought about it, ream it to 6mmAi and biff the 105/115 Berger at pace, need a long action though, T3 perfect donor action. That's been my thought process anyhoo.

Those pills run out of puff way before the long ones do. Same result to 300m though.

Do ya rekon I have a mental block with the 6CM. I do have a plan to try before I give up on it. Im gonna put it back in the chassis HMR stock. Im going to load 15-20 rounds and Mac is going to do the same. Well go to the range and take turns at shooting it. That may or maynot tell a story.

Ive got targets with over 50 groups I've shot with it, and one thing is for sure - either me or the rifle cant shoot consistent small groups!

Hardy barrel on a Bergara action. It has been very fustrating, its a beaut smooth action and i put a really good trigger in it. But it shoots mostly groups of 30-40mm, and I know I normally shoot a lot better than that . . .

Not bad enough for repair or replace then. Fine for a point an shoot deer rifle but not for distance varminting.

Sierra 110s, Hornady 103s and 108s, Targex 95s. Powders Stabil 65, 2209, h100v. I have all the targets I've shot with it in a folio (@pommy has some others he did for me) and it just isnt consistent (in my hands with my reloads) But my reloads for 223, 6.8spc, 6.5x55 and others range from solid MOA down to a consistent 0.3 MOA for the 223, so I dont hink its them).
