Finding a trigger for an older sentimental value rifle - Mauser action.

Hey Team,

My mate has a 6.5'06 custom rifle. Strong sentimental value, belonged to his Dad.

Unfortunately, he dropped it on the trigger today after cleaning it with the stock off after our rather wet hunt over the last few days. When it hit the ground the trigger snapped.

He said it is a Mauser action, it has the BNP stamp which I thought was common on Parker Hale rifles. I think the GR and Crown means it was during the reign of King George, I am assuming George VI which would make it a fairly old action.

Anyone know where we can get a relatively economical replacement trigger ?

Easy enough to weld it back together

Thats a P14 Enfield (or M1917, essentially the same thing). The trigger is a after market type as opposed to the original military one the rifle is converted from.
I might have one, will look when I get home.

This is a p17 based rifle . Timney triggers are easily available for them.

It looks like it's a Datyon Traister, these are still available. The one I have is a three lever target type and would be overkill for a sporting rifle, not to mention it'd require an alteration to the stock inlet.

Yeah, I thought Dayton Traister as well. I fitted one to a P14 range rifle I had. On their website the shape looks slightly different to what I recalled of mine, and maybe of the OP's rifle. The website images though aren't super clear.

Could be part of a Dayton Traister cock on closing kit, that trigger. Didn't the P14/P17 have that option in kit form?

Yes, I bought the kit. Changed out the trigger but then halted at the cock on opening mod as it required a wee bit of grinding with the dremel. Eventually struck up the courage and ground away, slowly.The convertion overall was excellent.

If the OP's is a Dayton Traister, due to the grinding out in the bolt, I am not sure if another after market trigger will fit and operate correctly. Unfortunately, my P14 with the DT trigger/cock on opening is long gone so I cannot examine it.

Otherwise, a good smith should be able to gas weld it back together. I'm wondering at the metal composition as it snapped like a carrot rather than belt. Cast?

you could also try brownells or numrich.

The hori in me says blob of kneadit and form it back to where it works for you. Any half competent engineer or welder could stick that back together,file it back down.

Thanks fellas, sounds like he's going to look at getting it welded in the first instance and see if that works.

Got a standard military trigger here you can have free or send it to Mike phone 0212605211 for welding.

That type of steel is probably most cast and should be reweldable pretty easily.

Mate has one of these on his P14.

I meant probably not cast
