    Fiordland preparation

Been a few years since I've hunted down in wet Fiordland . Any new or old tips tricks to keep my scope from fogging etc . I've got butler creeks on my scope , I'm not convinced they good enough ? . Also suppresses how do they go when soaking wet ? Or should I leave it at home and tape up end of barrel ?

Scope shouldn't fog internally, just dew on outside. I don't bother with caps, just wipe it when it needs it. Some people scrunch up toilet paper and push it in against the lens, then just flick it out when needed...but once again I've never bothered.

Suppressor are fine in the wet. You can tape the end the same as you mentioned for a barrel. Sometimes I do, most of the time I never bother.

Just go and enjoy, you'll have a great time and don't stress about things that could happen :-)

Why ? They get washed every day and dry socks last about the 3 seconds it takes to put in your absolutely sodden boots . Do where dry ones to bed just to help remove the wrinkles

leave the suppressor at home unless it has been cut short and has to have it to be shoot able.
Scope should be fine unless it is a weaver classic 3-9 in which case throw it as far as you can and put a luepold on it.

Going to swap scopes to my 3-9 Burris sininature ( tried&trusted ) as don't trust my vortex in the wet . An inch high at a hundred is not going to make a differance with suppresser off at 30 paces really . The camping near a river/creek was made clear when an very experienced tramper I know moved camp 3 times in a night to avoid the rising river . He came back with an new respect for the place and passed it on

Toss the scope caps and use the good old covers made from an inner tube - can be removed very fast, are cheap as chips, and make great firelighters when its raining. Leave the suppressor at home, you'll only need one shot, and will be thankful you're not carrying the extra weight, and the extra length. And DONT ever use toilet paper to wipe your lenses! - it removes the coatings and leaves minute scratches on the lense. Get hold of a glasses cleaning wipe, or camera lense cloth, plenty of places give them away, and keep that exclusively for your scope. Have fun, great place to hunt

Vaseline. Rub it between your toes to stop the webbing growing between them.

On a serious note has anyone tried Rainx on their scopes?

    Beautiful place down there.

I tried rainex on an old "expendable" tasco. It worked fine, but not sure I would risk it on a proper scope.
50/50 dettol and baby oil to keep those little black Bastards away.
    Not on your scope obviously

Think of the positives I'll have plenty of room on my side of the tent with a big jar of Vaseline beside my sleeping bag
