We have to use the online portal. So I can only assume that you will get hit up if buying a firearm from a dealer and then not registering your guns in 30 days.

Thanks for that Coop.Ammo purchases only become notifiable after 24/6/2025 ?am i right
kind of makes the magnetic strip in the FAL itself seem not so silly now afterall......so you swipe card as make purchase etc etc etc and details recorded against purchase....
Yes 2025.
Guncity have a good video out explaining all the details but one thing I wasn't aware off was is that it's a progressive roll out.
Doesn't sound like the ability exists yet to do private sales online yet.
Also if you want to view your information you have to get another code from a police station.
Got a link for the video

Hopefully that works but if you go to guncity YouTube channel it's there.
There is a shorter version with just the highlights but it misses a few points that's worth watching.
I've read over the whole thread, and the info on the website about registering, and the events that will start the clock on registering. But what i am unclear on is buying a suppressor. It is not listed as a 'major part' as far as I can see/understand, however, it looks as if it is open to interpretation (real helpful).
Would you consider a suppressor to be a 'major part' or something that would start the registering process?
As we are finding everyone has a different interpritation of all this. Im no expert but a major part to me would be a part that the firearm needs to have to fire a round. A suppressor to me would be an accesory as it can fire with or without it.
@stug has answered this by quoting the relevant part of the Regulations. The answer is that suppressors are not a major part.
Correct suppressor are not major parts but if the rifle is at a gunsmith for greater than 30 days for say fitment then this is a trigger event
Noice. Just one of things I don't want to make a mistake on
I guess the same question can be asked about a stock. According to the legislation, a stock is a firearms part, even needing a 43a to order online. However, according to the register's definition, a stock is not a "major part" and does not need to be registered?
So which version do we go with? Do I register a spare stock or not?
Exactly. There are some grey areas there. I guess if it has no serial number so can't be registered...??? However, a stock is a necessary component of a firearm (not to fire, but to be a useable product (unlike a suppressor which is not necessary for a usable product)), so would that make it a major? Or because it is not directly related to the operation of firing, is it not?
I just got off the phone to "My Firearms Support" and now have it in writing that a suppressor purchase will NOT start the registry. Maybe worth a call to check on the stock situation too? Can never be too careful with this I believe.
Gun parts (which include "major gun parts" ) have requirements eg mail order form. Major gun parts have a additional specific requirements, like being registered.
Have an email from the grand poobah of spankcarrots saying that all endorsed items need to be registered as they have "different details"
Sounds like you lost the data bro:
This is not a grey area, if you read the definition of firearm items in relation to the register, it says exactly what parts need to be registered.

Attachment 227611
It's really very simple if you actually read what it says.
My favourite misunderstanding are the people who think that ammunition needs to be registered in 2025.
So do "major parts" all need individual serial numbers stamped on them? Every spare barrel etc?
Mintie......READ THE ABOVE..... no mention of a barrel...... its right there in post #100
Goodness me
Jeeez can you even begin to imagine what is going to happen country wide when this all kicks in. The members of this forum would arguably be some of the more informed regarding the requirement around the rules and regs surounding firearms registration. If there is confusion here then the mind boggles as to how the the rest or the firearms owning population interpret this clusterfuck.
the ones I've spoken to aren't even aware of this registration thing..
Youd think if they wanted a decent rate of compliance they could send you an email. They sent me a couple prior to the gun grab so no reason why they cant again.
