Do we think this partially why the firearms community gets walked over by the government on the regular.

No its not a submissive stance.
It’s why we need well resourced, well supported organisations like NZDA and COLFO to negotiate on our behalf. I understand a lot of this goes on through direct channels, not in the media or on forums.
The highly law abiding behaviour of firearms owners is a great help.
Hunters and shooters should each join at least one club just to support the political effort.

    Well if it’s $800 a year and a renewal is 10 years that’s only 80 bucks a year
The equivalent of 20 rounds of quality factory ammo per year

It’s not really that bad when you think about it

And to be clear im not a supporter of it I think it should be subsidised everyone else’s sport is
But im not about to give up over $80 a year

I was a couple of days past 2 months when I renewed mine late last year. That was for Rotorua district so Waikato may be different.

Just applied for my renewal. Trigger event for registration but I'm not too bothered. Added a couple more masonry bolts into the wall as i had been advised the safe needs to be secured in two areas now (I had four 12mm concrete bolts into the floor) and used an old lockable filling cabinet for ammo storage with the cabinet secured to the concrete slab also. Paid online. Hoping to get this sorted quickly but not holding my breath. Cost me $135
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Today was contacted about visit for me and the wife, my referee has been contacted as well.
I was surprised at the speed of service, think I will have the whole thing done within 2 months going by this.
To be honest I can't fault the service as I didn't send a photo in straight away and got a reminder e-mail to get my act together.

Kicked off my renewal about the 20th May.
Vetted early last week and got approval letter on the 19th July.
New card to be sent out in 4 weeks.
I started mine early, expiry old one Nov 24 as had heard of delays.
No issues encountered vetter was out of Taupo.
    Cannot complain.

Sounds like that went pretty well then. Do they credit you the remaining months left on your license, or do you just lose those months if you apply a fair way out from the expiry date ?

@rugerman Letter states new licence 10 years to Nov 2034 to be honest didn't think about it at the time.
So dated from expiry old licence.

The tax payer paid 23m for Waka Ama by the last Govt. The tax payer does not subsidise firearms . You want to see the cost paid out to revoke firearms licences in the District Court. It would make your eyes water.
