Fitting after-market Scope dials... Experiences please

I have a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14, though at the time of purchase I did not think to get turrets put on it.. but now Im thinking I'd be at an advantage to do so, if wanting to do a little Long range...?

Stoney Point have aftermarket turrets, as well as other brands etc...

Is there any experiences to be learned with these types of things..??

Im well aware that sending to Leupold is probably the right thing to do, however Im at a loss as to how I would get my scope back as there is the blanket ban on firearm parts including scopes out of the States...?

    With thanks...

You can send through the importer as they were telling me they now send optics of once a week so the wait should not be so long as they used to be
My favorite sentences i like to hear are - I suppose so. and Send It!

The Loopy turrets are all a little too tall for my liking esp the VX-III type (both standard and after market). Take this into account if it is to be your only hunting rifle. The CDS system is way better for a hunter rifle. No dramas i know of sending to Leupold, just keep your out going freight receipts etc. I got customs giving me a hard time on a return for repairs scope. They thought I may be trying to bring in a new one with a dodgy import declaration. They were good in the end but I still got stung GST on the repair.

Aftermarket (read, NOT Leupold ) turrets no good...?

Now that the exchange rate has decided to drop like a lead balloon.. hmm..

I don't have a heap of experience with them but I don't know of anything other than the Stoney Creek. As the VX3 is still a coin slot style I'd imagine there is not a lot of options. They can really only be as good as the existing turret is as far as clicks etc go as all they do is slip over the top using the cap thread. Still tall. Only other option is a new turret assembly and all I know of is the Loopy custom shop.

stoney point wont fit with the vx3 finger adjustable turrets. they need the older style coin adjustable slot

    +1 for CDS system

leupold is the way to go.
If you get really enthused about this plan PM me and ill pay half the postage so we can post them together, I want the same thing done. I just cant be bothered getting around to it,
the other option is to sell what you have and buy what you want.

probably cost less sending it to leupold but will mean you are without scope for a month or two

I am also interested in how to go about this. Was thinking of getting some 1/4 MOA CDS Turrets put on my VX3 4.5-14x40mm. I have the B&C reticle which is great when you remember to wind the magnification up on it. But having the ability to dial would make things a little easier when pushing out further. Would you not just get NZ Asia to send it on your behalf via your local hunting store to make shipping easier?

Anyone have an idea on the rough cost of getting it done?
