Flush QD sling studs for a rifle - Grovtec

    Hey Team,

Who out there is running flush mounted QD sling studs on the side of their rifle? something like this https://grovtec.com/products/heavy-d...h-button-bases

How do you find them on a hunting rifle? I am just thinking of putting them on a couple of my rifles as I would like to have the rifle flat on my back for where they have things like levers or magazines which protrude and get a bit annoying. I have a Magpul QD sling left over from the black rifle days which I would be keen on putting to use.

If anyone has tried the Grovtec ones - do they work with Magpul QD studs?

Did you use the full rotation / limited rotation/ or non rotating ones?

    Cheers!

    @Kiwi.bloke

Did you try your Grovtec with a Magpul QD stud?

I fitted some to a 22. There's nice obviously when sling removed, no protrusions.

The annoying thing is mine can fully rotate which surprisingly is easy to occur. Then when you hoist the rifle over your shoulder there's a twist in the sling. No a biggie as the twist generally ends up half way and not on your shoulder but still annoys me.

Maybe full rotation are OK if using the sling as an aiming support aid where you may wish to introduce a twist. For my use, if limited rotation had been available I would have got those.

Interesting point cheers for that. Did you use the Grovtec ones?

No, don't recall the brand. Sourced from Brownells. The sling plug in bit is pretty universal I think. Have amongst my bits an Anschutz sling plug in swivel that also fits my Brownells sockets.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they will work with a Magpul sling, the only reason I mentioned the compatibility question is back in the black rifle days I had an AR stock which had a QD cup on it which my Magpul stud would pull out of with a small bit of force, the fit wasn't quite right. Also they advertise the Grovtec ones as 'compatible with any Grovtec QD sling' but don't say anything about other brands - which is probably just a marketing thing to get you to buy one of their slings.

I have them on two of my rifles and I like them. You definitely DON'T want the full rotation ones

EDIT: I just checked and I have at least 3 different brands of flush cups and sling attachments and they all seem to fit each other - Grovtec, Uncle Mikes, and Brownells

This pretty much sums it up. Plenty of makers and options out there. The best seem to be those at have a limited rotation. Worth having a really good think about where you want to fit them as not really an option to refit. Probably an upgrade from normal slings mounts, but not by a massive margin. Worth doing if you plan on using a 3 point sling.

@garyp unfortunately they don't appear to make Pachmayr ones anymore based on what I have read on US forums.

Pachmayr ones which are extremely nice don't seem to have been around for ages. They were in a very old Brownells catalogue I had but not current.

IIRC they may have operated on a different principle to the current Grovtec style so maybe no interchangeability @garyp ?

I'd seen pictures of them on nice African rifles.

Quite different I recall. Push in and turn 90 degrees to release. Spring loaded. Have a couple I think in the bit box.
