    flying jetstar with firearms

I have a flight from Auckland to chch at the end of the month and return early next month and will have a case of rifles in both directions
from what I've read online how i understand it you only need a dangerous goods permit if carrying ammo, I won't be taking ammo, and the firearms in question are antiques

I called Jet Star to confirm and came to the same outcome, but I certainly didn't get left with a lot of confidence that I wasn't going to get asked for a dangerous goods permit at the airport (was more a mmm ah yeah, I think that's right)

I normally fly air nz and they are easy 1st time with Jetstar as I took the cheap option (half the cost) air nz likes a ph call at least 24 hours before to let them know that you will have a firearm apart from that it's pretty much common-sense bolt out in a locked hard case

I'm pretty sure I do not need the DG permit with the lack of ammo, and I can just show up and declare the firearm at check-in
my mate I'm going to stay with has come up here a couple of times with Jet Star, but he had the DG permit- no issues at all

I just want to make sure I'm not going to have issues as I already find flying a bit hectic

anyone can confirm for certain about permits etc.
