Thread: Forwarding Firearms Parts From Customs

So I've got a package from Brownells stuck in Auckland, as it looks like NZ Post still won't forward on any packages containing gun parts. Has anyone found a solution to this? Could I just book a courier to pick them up and send on to me?

I had the same problem. Yesterday NZ Custom told me that NZPost is working on a new system. The parts haven't arrived at international mail center yet.

I've been told to wait for NZPost to contact you when the part arrived at international mail center.



BTW what courier can pickup from the international mail center?

I received an email from NZ Post upon customs releasing my parcel. They flat out refuse to carry anything firearm related. This morning I engaged with "Stuck NZ" who are facilitating delivery. Expensive. But tentatively seems to be sorted.

What a shit show......amazing that we can be deemed "fit and proper" on one hand, yet on the other hand treated worse than criminals

We are not its all about NZ Post virtue signalling. Look at us we dont carry nasty evil things. Never mind they were paid to deliver it on behalf of the sender.

And I assume NZP are pre paid a small part of the total shipping to deliver to the final address in NZ. Lots of little bits of shipping portions never refunded. I'm surprised no one has challenged them on the issue.

I'm actually considering writing to the Minister responsible to see if we can get this sorted. It is unacceptable.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years back - had to wait until a friend was travelling through and he collected for me with a signed/witnessed by JP release letter.

Came in with an import permit but once customs decided to 'inspect' it broke the delivery chain and then NZ post refused to touch it or even hand it on to a booked courier

this is bloody ridiculous. I get primers sent to me from Reloaders with Toll Transport,they are clearly labeled as dangerous good, then because Toll do not have courier service in my area the package gets passed over to NZ Post and delivered to me???

I don't know if it's even virtue signalling - on the whole it is such a small proportion of the NZ Post animal I suspect it's just too hard and they are more concerned with the optics if one of their employees decides to not deliver something in that class. It does not help us though.

Sent a mate to pick up the parcel to depot few month ago. They make all this drama but then when he turned there to pick up they didn’t even checked he had a firearm license… how’s that for a joke…
You can get a transporter to pick it up there I guess as long as themselves are ok moving firearm item

Apparently it was always the case that NZ Post did not carry firearms parts, but it was never an issue prior to the events of 2019. I had NZ Post deliver probably close to 100 packages containing gun parts, one containing an entire rifle, all from USPS via Auckland Airport. Then all of a sudden it's an issue.

I would use caution escalating this issue. if it become a problem for them they could decide to not even allow pickup from depot and just return to sender. This is what happens with FedEx and lot of other shipping companies in NZ. Even if FedEx US accept firearm, FedEx NZ systematically return them to sender once in the country.

We had problems enough at the shop well prior to 2019 ...actually prior to the earthquakes which shut the shop so prior to 2011. It got to the point that the owner could not post anything apart from letters as they "knew " he owned the gunshop so every parcel , personal or otherwise was refused because it MIGHT contain gun parts.....

I was all geared up for this when I imported 4 x 30 round P mags a year or so back. Figured I would have to fly up to Auckland, walk to customs to grab them and then fly home. I was watching the tracking closely ready to make the call to buy tickets when the mags just turned up at my door, they flew through customs without even being checked
