Fully suppressed 22…. Your thoughts please

    Hi Guys,

After your thoughts, I am looking to add a fully suppressed bolt action 22 to the range and was after your opinions. I can go with a couple of options, either a cheaper rifle (turkish jw 15 sort of thing) or going with a Savage.

The the suppressors would be the same on both, barrels cut down a full length anodized aluminium cans fitted.

The cheaper option would be likely around $900 and the Savage option around the $1200 mark

So what do you think……if it’s your hard earned cash what would you buy

    Thanks
    Darren

Whats the intended use? for how long do you intend to keep this rifle?

over that time period, do 300 make a difference?

good idea trigger first single action fully adjustable weight can go down to 1.5 - 2 lb -- barrell match barrell this rifle is going to shoot extremly well - bolt the best I have used would be the BRNO - safety able to lock firing pin not the trigger - stock an option of nice walnut ( obviously price would reflect that ) or modular maybe all alloy with adjustments for length and cheek fit for scope - but overall a shooter and lighter- a rifle to carry and use as well as target

Those original ported and suppressed ones that MAE made were very impressive. Should still be a market for them orchards etc. Of course MAE has long gone.

Sorry what is the point of the fully suppressed 22? I have standard dpt cans on all my 22s, and run either subs or quiets - and all I hear is the trigger click and then the impact. I cannot see the point of slowing down the bullet when you can just buy slower ammo?

A lot of people like shorter compact nature of this style without a muzzle forward can

Keep it compact and tidy,eg can hard to stock or as you say complete over barrel. Much fun to use and bolt action Vs semi would be a nice option. As to slowing projectiles down....the 22lr doesn't need much to reach full velocity from my understanding and long barrels can be slower.why some short barrels struggle to stay subsonic. @mudgripz has done lots of alterations ,be interesting to hear his thoughts.

    I wouldn't pay $900 for a fully suppressed JW-15 (it's just a Turkish JW-15 copy after all).
    I also wouldn't pay $1200 for a suppressed Savage.
I suggest there is a very small market for these types of fully suppressed .22 rifles. The purchase price is high and the extra noise reduction you get over a standard quality muzzle forward suppressor does not justify the increased cost.

Build an integrally suppressed 1022 barrel in a bull barrel profile.

I had a fully suppressed rem597. Once the ports blocked up it didnt work on high vel ammo. Friend had a savage shorty that was a cool little unit

    Hi Darren
the above post of 55six is good perhaps just stay with the Rossi Monty single shot or a Rascal that has a good trigger and then there is also the Lill Badger

What @vulcannz and @Hermitage said. A very limited market and cost-to-benefit gains from spending additional $500 or so just aren't there.

We shoot bazillions of bunnies here in Cantab with tuned, chopped sporters - only sometimes suppressed. Common barrel length - 16". Opinions vary but HV 22LR is at terminal velocity in barrel by about 14-15", and we never chop them shorter because we commonly shoot bunnies at 100m - average 70m - and we need every ounce of impact. Would not want to lose ft/lbs with fully suppressed barrel setup.

Subsonics through a good silencer on your 22 are very quiet, and your rifle still has full High Velocity ammo performance capability for when you need HVs. More versatile and alot cheaper.
