I don't think weight is the main consideration for the RN-50 but cost. They weigh between 5.8kg (still light for a .50BMG) and 11.34kg depending on barrel option. Main distinctive contribution is the end-cap doing away with lugs, bolts, receiver, etc. and a perfectly symmetrical cartridge support. Kind of a shame they went with the AR 'lower' as any hammer-based mechanism means unneccessary longer lock-time for no real gain. I think it's just because AR15 lowers are commonplace and familiar in the US.
