Want something reliable and preferably something where the action doesn't feel like a toy

Shoot guns, Not heroin!
Ruger 96/22.
Good luck finding one, took me 18 months to get mine and I ain't parting with it
had a play with my uncles 22mag henry in the weekend didn't get to shoot it though seems pretty alright I'm not a huge fan of leaver guns though
Winchester 9422, Browning BL22, Ruger 96/22, Marlin 39.
I have had both the browning and the ruger.
Sold the ruger and kept the browning, a pure joy to use with a very nice action-I really like that the trigger comes with the leaver so no chance of pinched finger. And it out shot the ruger.

Norinco also do a lever action .22 I've had a play with one and it was typical Norinco finish, but it shot about on par with my Winchester 9422.
Gimp's right on this one - four very good rifles and it'll come down to preference. 9422 is my favourite but all good.
Avoid Henry H001 - barrel was so thin on mine it heated up after 4-5 shoots and sprayed groups badly. Went to 2-4" at 50m. Went back to shop.
find a good 9422 great guns but can be pricy our local h f shop had a mint one it lasted 3 days on the rack and was 1100 bucks ive had a couple of these and should never never sold them i also had a miroku 22 and that was good to i do have a henry and its ok but not in the same class as the first two cheers

Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...
browning / miroku lever gun. Marlin 39a, Ruger.
Don't touch a Henry 22, total crap , actions are very slick but barrels are shocking . Mine was key holing tumbling bullets at 50mtrs, more you fired and the barrel heated up the worse it got.
Winchester 9422 xtr if you can find one they are built to last. H&F has a 2nd hand one for around $780 .
